Who are the best .co.za domain name registration people?

I'm looking to register some .co.za domain names, but the guy that I've been working through is messing me around. He is not prepared to set me up as the admin & techie contact. As far as I know this is against domain name registration policy, but I don't want to piss him off only to lose the domain name.

I was wondering if this community has any thoughts on good and reputable .co.za domain name registration people.

It astounds me that this kind of business (which has a proven business model) is still run by amateurs in SA. In the US and Europe people have made fortunes doing this with the users in mind.

You are not going to find a lot (read any) of companies willing to do that, barring maybe one or two that only hosts one domain. Especially if the company has a serious amount of domains to look after, putting someone other than yourself on as a contact creates an administration nightmare. It basically cuts off your hands to do basic things like just change name servers, as the owner then has to approve all tickets etc.

I personally had to update 150 + co.za domains which had random people (ex employees, non IT personnell etc) listed in the contacts. Try tracking down all those people to accept the tickets or even explaining to them how it works. Trust me, you do not want to go there. Then you will understand why he does not want to put you up as contact.

As for accusing South African ISP's of being amateurs, not so sure I agree with you on that one. I personally have worked with numerous ISP's all over the world and I really enjoy working with SA guys. The absolute worst being the Aussies.

The co.za system is ticket based, and there is not a lot anybody can do about that other than to live with it. Actually, once you get used to it, you can admin domains faster through it than through online registrars.

There is no real market for domain registrar's in SA, we do about 200 domains, and even then we do it more as a customer service than as a profitable entity of the company. The business model has been proven yes, if you have a customer base of millions. Which we do not have in SA.

Attie, I would suggest 2 solutions.
1) You register the domain yourself at http://www.co.za
You only need a credit card or send them a cheque and some nameservers. Hosting is probably the most expensive and alot of nice people will offer you good hosting depending on the size and the amount of bandwidth your site will be pushing.

2) Go with some company to register your domain for you.

If you need any help etc... Please don't hesitate to contact me at pieter at pieter dot com.

I actually looked into this a couple of months ago and can not believe that there were not a whole bunch of domain registrars in SA.

I would be interested in peoples experience and opinions on finding a good co.za registrar.

Don't you have to be a reseller to buy from www.co.za? I have not read all the information on their website...

You dont need to be a reseller to register a co.za domain.

If you need cheap hosting I can organize it for you, and can also register the domains for you.

You dont need to be a reseller to register a domain, but you do need the domain setup on the ISP's servers and a valid Primary & secondary name server. www.Sequel.co.za adheres to the Uniform policy by registring the domain to the owner of the domain. You will always be the owner of your domain.
Sequel.co.za offer very competitive prices for domain registration. R110.00 for a .co.za

Well I've recently been looking just at where to host, SA is damn expensive to host a web site vs what they offer in regards to Bandwidth and Disk Space.

It seems that it's better to support overseas companies ....
What is the best places that you guys might have found to host your site at ?

Cheerio

Need to register your co.za domain, with all your details. I can do this for you. I can also offer hosting service if you need it. Registration will cost R200 payable in advance, as with all your details, I cannot be gauranteed of payment.

However, if you change the details incorrectly and mess up the system, then it will cost an additional amount to rectify the error.

If you want me to, then email webmaster@mychristianhelper.co.za

Download this text file:

http://co.za/coza_reg.txt

Fill in all the information, and send it to 'coza-admin@co.za'.

Rember to set your email program to text only.

This is the top level domain registar in South Africa. It is fully automated (a software solution is reading your email), so keep with the rules and the formats and every thing will happen automaticly.
