My phone needs to go to Cape Town to get upgraded?

I just phoned Samsung about whether they have an official upgrade to WM6 for the i600. There are upgrades out there where you can download a package from another country and upgrade - but I must admit, I am hesitant to follow this approach. Anyway they tell me that the service centers can upgrade it for me. Upon phoning one of them, they told me I must hand over my phone for 5 days. When I asked why so long, I was told it must be sent to Cape Town for "repairs". Surely Samsung SA can do something to allow customers to easily upgrade. Even provide the software and instructions to do it yourself. Alternatively maybe have something like "upgrade days" :-) where they can upgrade while you wait.

Has anyone upgraded the i600 using the official route?

I agree 100%, Samsung need to make it easier to upgrade.

I've upgraded my i600 to WM6 some time ago using the 'unofficial' round-about way and while I haven't had any issues there were a couple of nervous moments while waiting for the process to complete.

To send a phone away for 5 days to complete a process that takes a couple of minutes doesn't add up. Maybe pt some pressure on http://www.samsungblog.co.za/ to put out a formal post on the state of WM6 upgrades in SA.

Wow.... it seems that Samsung keeps their most skilled people in Cape Town. I say go the unofficial way (like Armand) and see where it takes you, that's what I did with my HTC TyTN, I even have the touch flow component running that has been rewritten in flash lite (the mobile version).
