BarCamp Johannesburg
With BarCamp Earth just around the corner and the recent success of BarCamp Cape Town it goes without saying that Johannesburg also needs one of them BarCamps. So a couple of us got together and set the ball in motion for the best BarCamp yet in South Africa - BarCamp Johannesburg.
What is BarCamp?
"BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering (or “unconference“) born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees."
Registration, admission and participation will cost you zip, zero and absolutely nothing. Nifty!"
BarCamp Johannesburg will be held at the Sci-Bono Science Museum in New Town on the 9th/10th of September 2oo6.
In the spirit of BarCamp there is no set topic list or speaking schedule. The main threads running through the two days is Culture, Tech and Media. There's some suggested topics on the Wiki and we'd love to see more topics that people would want to hear or present on added to the list. Anything goes and everybody is encouraged to participate and share knowledge around the main themes. Topics can range from indepth WCF to uhm, the effect of global warming on the blogging culture and your cat. If there's anything you'd like to hear about that's not yet on the suggested topic list go ahead and add it please!

As Mike said, these events take some effort to get organized and with BarCamp being such a cool ad-hoc conference we need some help from people spreading the word, getting sponsorships and just "general dogsbody!? stuff". If you can help with any of the stuff listed on the wiki etc just let us know. You'll be sure to experience good karma in the next life!
