--> Mobile Number Portability [South African] - Impersonation Failure

Mobile Number Portability [South African]

I've been looking forward to the recent introduction of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in South Africa, which allows mobile subscribers to switch operators without changing numbers and which will allow us to switch to MTN, for two reasons :

  1. I used to have a minor annoyance with the Vodacom network (my current operator) quality in the Sunninghill area where we stay, which were not always up to par with the quality of the other networks.
  2. However the main reason, and you have to be South African to understand this, is Mo the f%^ing naked Meerkat mongoose dancing thing advertising campaign. Puke. (See some of the comments on this thread to get a better idea of the general feeling towards this little rodent monster)

Today saw this brilliant clip on Jo'Blog, something I think many people have visualised in one form or another...

Well done Jeff!!

This will be a Y'ello Summer for me and I know I'll sleep better knowing I'm not contributing another cent to the creators of that marketing monstrosity!

Dude, we need to start a support group for people who hate that stupid meerkat (is that what it is?)

Sometimes i wonder if it is not all part of the master plan - vodacom execs are not stupid, i am sure they know how much the ads irritates people, but it also gets people talking and thinking about their brand a hell of a lot...i dont know, i am no expert on these matters, but it strikes me as intentional.

+1 for the support group/lynch mob.
