Improving Sharepoint with /3GB Switch - Has anyone tried this ?

Nick Porter talks about improving performance of Sharepoint by editing boot.ini file. Has anyone tried this ? He also has another post on using HTTP Compression for IIS6.0 to improve Sharepoint performace.
