What is Architecture - Part 2

In this post i asked what Architecture is. Michael Platt, in this post, describes 3 Architect Roles, namely Enterprise, Solutions and Infrastructure.

Simon.says, calls these roles Architect Persona's in this post. There is an interesting discussion around this in his comments. What kind of Architect are you ?

The Evolution of Architecture with Martin Fowler

Great new podcast up on ARCast : "Change is happening all around us, new technologies, new methodologies, but how are these changes affecting the ways in which systems are architected and how do recent developments like patterns and refactoring cause us to think differently about architecture? These are the questions that I had in my mind as I sat down to chat with Martin Fowler and Ian Robinson of Thoughtworks on this episode."

What is Architecture ?

What do you think about these statements:

  • Architecture is 50% business, 50% Tech.
  • The Architect doesnt decide wether or not to use DataGrids.
  • The Architect doesnt care about coding standards
  • The Architect doesnt care about reading UML
  • The Architect doesnt care about Agile/RUP/MSF etc
  • The Architect translates IT to Business
  • "Microsoft believes that traveling the “arc of possibility” is the foundation of everything done by creative developers, IT professionals, and business people with a mission. Architecture transcends the individual and creates a community of ideas with a shared language of design. Architecture crosses the boundaries of systems to unite the components of business."

What do YOU think Architecture is, cause i certainly dont know.
