I was trying to add some new code to the repository and it didn't like the folder names (I think one of them started with a '.'), it threw out an error message and happily deleted my code from the local folder. Luckily I was also able to use reflector to recover my code.

Sourcesafe is not.

Just like you they told me that they cannot sell me the parts over the counter. They could not really give me a reason why...

So I sent the blasted thing in. Hoping that it would all be resolved quickly. How wrong I was. Firstly it takes them about 2 weeks to simply give me a quote, even though they knew what I needed. Finally got the quote, paid them and all is well. A week later I contact them to inquire about how my notebook is doing. They had no record of it being there. After another few days they finally got the repair order, and started work.

After another week or so, turns out the tech working on my machine, went on leave and never transferred it to another tech. Once again they had no record of it.

A few days later they said that they had started work. Finally a week or so later, I got the call that I was waiting for. Only it was not ready. It now needed a new CPU, HDD and Motherboard. Some guy made a stuff up with it. It went in needing a new battery and keyboard (one button was broken), the next moment they are quoting me R6000+ for repairs. I refused to pay, demanding to know what the hell they did with the thing.

Finally spoke to a manager. They agreed that I will not have to pay for any repairs, other than the original quote. They ordered the parts (well you can imagine what happened then)

A week or so later, I call to follow up. Turns out they lost the notebook. It is physically gone. By now I was just laughing whenever I spoke to Acer..... ;)

Finally they found it, delivered it. Only they wanted to have one last dash at hopelessness and forgot to bring my AC adapter. Strangely they actually delivered it the next morning.

Well yes, what should have taken me one drive to Acer to get the parts, and about 30 minutes to install, turned into a few month fiasco.

I will never ever ever buy any Acer product again. Luckily I decide what our company uses, so neither will our company.

(sorry for the long comment, I just had to share the story)

I've upgraded the RAM and the HDD in my HP notebook myself, approved my HP as they understand users would upgrade these items in particular.
