Time to monetize your gaming creativity
You’ve played Xbox 360 games with the millions of gamers on Xbox LIVE. You’ve chatted, shared, and dominated in games of all kinds. But what if those millions could be playing your game? Better still – what if you were getting paid for it? Read more in my post about it over here . Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!
The death of Home Theatre PCs in South Africa
I was saddened to open my feed reader this morning. A local developer and Windows Media Center enthusiast, Colin Savage, who was the man behind the ZaEpg service has been legally forced to cease and desist by the South African television monopoly known as MultiChoice. Yes everyone that is running a HTPC (Home Theatre PC) like Windows Media Center will soon have no more DStv Electronic Program Guide (EPG). It would be great if MultiChoice actually offered their guide information electronically other...
Mass Effect nominated Best of E3 2007
Microsoft Game Studios is certainly doing well when it comes to producing great games for the Xbox 360 and Games For Windows platforms. Mass Effect is the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive RPG title due for release in November this year by Microsoft Game Studios and Bioware and it has been nominated Best of E3 2007 in the Best in Show , Best Console and Best RPG title categories. Visit the official “Mass Effect” website ( http://www.masseffect.bioware.com/ ) to download the recently released extended E3...

Lionhead Studios celebrated their 10th anniversary and released a new episode in the behind the scenes tour of the Fable 2 . The video highlights the innovative one-button combat system and introduces the team behind the highly-anticipated sequel to the best-selling Xbox exclusive Fable . “This is a very exciting time for us,” said Peter Molyneux, managing director of Lionhead Studios “Ten years in this industry is no small feat. We have a great team that is committed to pushing the limits of what...
Review - TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
A while back I ordered myself a copy of TMNT for the Xbox 360 console. What was I thinking at the time, I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly it was quite cheap and would add to my collection so it was worth it. It sat unopened on my desk for weeks until finally this weekend my girlfriend hinted at having a go at it. So I popped it in my console for a bit of fun multi-player action and realized to my horror that it only has a single player mode. It could really do with a co-operative multi...

BT Games just announced that the Forza Motorsport 2 time trial tournament that was announced yesterday for their Northgate store has been changed due to an overwhelming response from the community. The tournament has been expanded to include 9 of 10 of their stores. The only store not participating will be the Rustenburg store. Check out the updated invitation here . Technorati tags: Forza Motorsport 2 , BT Games , tournament , competition Cross posted from http://xboxbloggers.net/CraigN/ . Share...
Forza Motorsport 2 launched in South Africa
On Friday the 1st of June 2007, Microsoft South Africa invited a group of media, retailers and community members to the Kyalami Race Track for the launch of Forza Motorsport 2, the sequel to Microsoft Game Studios' award-winning, fully-customisable driving simulator Forza Motorsport. The day started off with a hearty breakfast and an introduction by Cindy White to the new Country Lead for Xbox 360 in South Africa, Marc Batten. John Press, the product manager for Xbox 360, highlighted the main...
Review - Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta
Firstly let me explain a bit about the beta for those not in the know. The easiest way for anyone to get access to the public beta is to buy a copy of Crackdown - an awesome game in its own right. Bungie , the makers of Halo 3 , released a public beta of the game onto Xbox LIVE on Wednesday but due to some technical difficulties it was only made available to Crackdown owners early on Thursday morning. Having a 4mbps ADSL line is what counts when it comes to downloading 911.18 MB of beta content as...
Crackdown reborn
Microsoft Game Studios knows how to reward gamers with downloadable content. Today sees the release of not only a free title update to improve the gameplay, a free add-on pack called the Free-For-All Pack but they also added the Gettin' Busy Bonus Pack for 800 Microsoft points. I particularly like the sound of new vehicles and weapons but I'm sure most gamers will agree, the hidden orbs are a mission to find. So now the orb sound comes into range sooner when you have 50% and then 20% remaining...
Xbox LIVE definitely coming to South Africa
One result of all the commotion around the Xbox 360 Dashboard update and the new content control was an urgent push to get the draft of an online petition to Microsoft South Africa requesting clarity on Xbox LIVE in South Africa out the door earlier. And I must say that it is a great effort. The South African gaming community is getting behind the online petition which I encourage every South African Xbox supporter to sign. So far there are almost 500 signatures and more being added daily. There...
Xbox LIVE content control explained for South Africans
Over the last couple of days the local Xbox 360 community has been a bit agitated regarding the Dashboard software update that has gone live today. The update adds a whole bunch of cool new features like integration with the Windows Live Messenger (or MSN Messenger for those behind the times) network so you can now chat with your buddies from your console as well. Last week the Microsoft Games Global Marketing team blogged about the new Xbox 360 Marketplace territory controls being strengthened....
New Xbox LIVE content control and South African gamers
The Microsoft Community Manager for Xbox.com known as AceyBongos has made an interesting post today regarding the new content controls put in place for Xbox Live Marketplace. Currently South Africa doesn't have official access to the Xbox LIVE service as it hasn't been launched yet locally so a lot of us signed up for access through the UK or US services. Its a common practice and it works well as we get access to the amazing Xbox LIVE network and the unlimited gaming and social networking...

Are PC game pirates scaring off the pubishers?
Since the Xbox 360 emerged on the local South African market late last year I've started to hear PC gamers complaining about consoles. From letters to the editor of the local NAG magazine to friends and people I meet. Most PC gamers that I've spoken to say that the games cost too much and that the platform doesn't compare to the gaming power of the PC gaming platform. I find the cost of games an interesting argument. Sure PC games are cheaper, typically in the R150 to R300 price range...
Xbox 360 firmware updates made easy
Often I hear the cries from Xbox LIVE members here in South Africa. Microsoft releases an update to the Xbox 360 firmware (aka the Dashboard et al) and you are prompted to download it over the often horrendous South African international bandwidth. I was quite impressed to find the following blog post making life a lot easier. Turns out the firmware is just over 6mb compressed, not too bad for the average user and I'm sure it will download faster than from the console itself. Its also a cool...
