That is correct Ernst, you still need a decoder. Its not bypassing anything just a different means of accomplishing PVR functionality.

It doesn't affect the sales of their hardware in an overall picture - you still need a decoder to view the channels, not so?

It might affect the sales of the PVR specifically though, but not that much - most people don't choose the PVR when buying dstv.

I actually do believe they know what Colin did but they simply don't care about their subscribers - its all about their hardware platform and sales thereof.

Think about it, how could they launch a VoD (aka catch-up) service without a PVR decoder as something needs to store the trickle-feed content.
