On Tuesday, Eben came into the speaker room at Tech-Ed needing someone to take over a talk on Windows Mobile, which was to be presented by Goksin Baskir from Microsoft. Goksin had found out earlier in the morning that his Mother-In-Law has passed away and needed to return to Istanbul. Prompted by Ruari Plint I informed Eben that I am willing to present the session, rather then letting it be cancelled. Goksin and I spent some time reviewing the presentation covering the new and very exciting feature...

From a community aspect this year's Tech-Ed proved to be an awesome event. I had the privilege of planning and hosting the community lounge this year, and it would not have been half as successful without the support and the help from an awesome team of community members, MVP's and Microsoft staff. I would like to thank various people for their involvement in the lounge. Du Preez Kritzinger for managing and planning the community lounge, and allowing me complete freedom with the stand. Amory...

On Sunday, 3 August 2008, 2000+ delegates invaded the Durban ICC to attend the first keynote to be held outside of Sun City in 8 years. In the few hours preceding this event a lot of behind the scenes work had to be completed to ensure that all these delegates will be provided with the best that Microsoft and it's various partners have to offer. On Saturday evening both Ruari Plint and Willy-Peter Shaub and his team arrived in KZN, heading out to the Sandringham B&B which was the base of...

Bytes Systems Integration sponsored me to go to Tech-Ed 2007 . The planning for this started in August already and on Sunday morning shortly after 10:00am Craig and I was all set to head to Sun City . The GPS on Craig's Nokia N95 made easy work of directing us to the venue and we arrived shortly after 12:00pm, after a stop for refreshments and fuel. Registration was fairly painless and we received very nice shoulder bags filled with some magazines and the normal notebook, pen and event guides...

Michelle and I attended DevDays 2007 held at the Sun Coast Conference Centre. I went representing SA Developer.Net in the new T-Shirts Craig managed to get flown down to me by Eben De Witt. I went with a fairly high expectation and I will admit the day was worth it. The Keynote was well presented and offered a lot of insight into all the new technologies Microsoft is investing time in. Ernst presented tracks on ASP.Net AJAX as well as website security, and I was astounded by the features Orcas will...

The first exciting bit of Development news I have is that Telligent, the makers of Community Server, has released the next generations of their server software called Community Server 2007. The new version sports a new skinning mechanism called Chameleon, improved performance, new forum and blogging features as well as the normal bells and whistles associated with new ASP.Net applications. They have also brought out new licensing options, including an Express Edition with restricted features however...
I had another successful SA Developer event at IT Intellect this evening. I had scheduled a talk called Dissecting a Web Application to cover the basics of a website, including a look at HTML and what a web application actually is. We had a nice turnout of 18 people, some of who are currently studying at IT Intellect. The feedback from the talk again seemed very positive and open up room for a few more talks, and I addressed some issues related to actual working problems. I am also impressed by how...
