1.1 just became 2.0

You probably expected this :-)

How fundamental are the feature improvements between Silverlight 1.0 and 1.1?  HUGE, you would rightly say.  As big as the difference between writing Javascript and managed code.  So, to do justice .1 does not do it.  Hence, Microsoft has announced today that the next release of Silverlight will not be 1.1, but rather 2.0.  Read the announcement and about all the envisioned features for Silverlight 2.0.

In the same announcement Scott also hints on the public preview of "ASP.NET 3.5 Extensions" to be released to the web next week.  Those of you that have been eagerly awaiting Microsoft's implementation of the Model View Controller framework definitely would like to get your hands on this preview.  Go have a look at Scott's tutorial on creating an MVC ASP.NET project.

Also have a look at release announcements regarding the ADO.NET Entity Framework and "Astoria".

Windows Communication Foundation

Among the new components in .NET Framework 3.0 (WCF, WF, WPF and CardSpace) Windows Communication Foundation increasingly commands the interest of developers and decision makers alike.  We see WCF becoming more-and-more part of mainstream solution development.

If you've been able to master the basics of WCF, consider attending the WCF Master Class presented by Juval Lowy.

If you're eager to hear some of Juval's impressions on WCF, why not attend the SA Developer evening.

Either way, this is a great opportunity you cannot miss out!

Software + Services Blueprints

BlueprintsLogo-HalfSize

There has been just SO much talk about Software + Services.  Yet, the gap between theory and reality can feel impossible.

Software + Services Blueprints are a series of source code and guidance packages designed to provide an architectural bridge between vision and implementation by making it easier to build S+S applications.

As a starting point for building real solutions by architects and developers, each Software + Services Blueprint includes code and/or utilities, guidance, structured step-by-step workflow and tools delivered within Visual Studio. Each S + S Blueprint is focused on media/community, eCommerce, Office Business Applications (OBA), mobility or other future S+S application areas. They range in complexity from rapid development packages to complete end-to-end scenarios. S + S Blueprints are released under the terms of the Microsoft Public License and you are free to use the code, in its original form, or as modified by you, within the terms of this license, in your products and websites.

The first S+S Blueprint is now available for download.

The Outlook+Services Blueprint enables the rapid construction of Outlook 2007 Add-ins which expose data from and enable interaction with external services.
