March 2008 - Posts
I've always wanted to say it. "Due to popular demand ..."
We had more interest in the SQL Server 2008 Jumpstart DevChat in Johannesburg than our venue could accommodate for. Hence, we decided to do a re-run. So, anyone that missed this event in Johannesburg, you now have a second (and last) chance on 22 April 2008 :-) Register today.
Note that the content will be exactly the same as was presented at the original event.
We thank First Technology for sponsoring this event.
See you at the event!
Some of you are aware that Mentez has been running a competition in South Africa, in search for the most popular local Facebook application. The competition started last year and we're in the final stretch.
Eight applications made it to the final. They are now listed and available for use. I encourage you to have a look at these innovative applications and try some of them. Two of these applications use Silverlight: KlearTouch and 100 Things. You can access these Silverlight/Facebook applications from http://apps.facebook.com/kleartouch and http://apps.facebook.com/hundredthings. The developer of KlearTouch has added some additional comments and explanations regarding the application in his blog. Have a look!
The winner will be announced on 7 April, and will be based on the average number of active users of the two last weeks prior to 5 April.
Microsoft announced last week at MIX 08 a whole set of developer and design tools. You've probably seen it already elsewhere. However, if not, here's a quick run down.
Internet Explorer 8 Beta. Download your copy from http://www.microsoft.com/ie/ie8
Silverlight 2 Beta. I've had so many people asking when Silverlight 2 will be available. Go ahead, download a copy from http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/#Beta (go to the bottom of the page). Silverlight 2 beta includes innovative new features like Deep Zoom, more than 40 new controls and a rich .NET base class library of functionality. Microsoft also announced plans to deliver Silverlight for Windows Mobile.
Expression Studio 2 Beta. Download a copy of Expression Blend 2.5 March 2008 Preview - http://www.microsoft.com/expression
A preview of Microsoft SQL Server Data Services is now also available to a selected group (MIX08 attendees). It's an invite-only beta :-( This service is designed for developers building Web-based applications that need a scalable, easily programmable and highly available utility-based data store. You can register at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/dataservices to be notified once the public beta becomes available.
