Office Open XML Approved as ISO/IEC Standard

You've probably heard the exciting news already - both ECMA and Microsoft have announced it.

For Microsoft Office 2007, it means that the format in which Microsoft Office natively saves documents, that format is now an internationally recognized open standard.

For developers, it means that you are encouraged to programmatically create, update and view Microsoft Office 2007 documents, without even using the Microsoft Office 2007 desktop applications.

Why not try your hand on it?

  • If you feel lost in all of this, respond to this blog, and if you're in the vicinity of Microsoft Bryanston (South Africa), I can make a complementary copy of the "Open XML Explained" booklet available to you.
  • If you're looking for a list of technical resources, check out the list of Open XML Resources and the Open XML SDK Roadmap.

Don't miss out!
