January 2005 - Posts
I thought it nice to have a list of 'hotspot' venues ready for geek gatherings - what would a geek-gathering be with no internet access? So far I've only used one of them in Durbs, so my list needs some addition by you guys who are more connected (and potentially more geeky) than myself. Here's my full list:
- Europa Cafe' - Chartwell Drive, Umhlanga Rocks
- Mugg & Bean - Musgrave Centre
Any others? Please comment :)
[UPDATE - Added the extra result from WiFinder]
Scott Dukes hosts a Patterns Discussion Group at Marriot which focusses on the GOF Design Patterns. We had the first session last night, where we discussed the Abstract Factory- and the Strategy patterns. These sessions promise to evolve into interesting discussions around problems, issues and solutions regarding patterns and I highly recommend attending them.
Keep an eye on Scott's blog for future sessions.
SADev Durban will kick off 2005 on 27 January at CS Holdings, Westville. Snack and drinks will be provided, and as always, some goodies be given away.
Peter McMahon is an MVP in Visual C#, and will give us an overview of the new Visual Studio Team System - an interesting topic for the whole team involved in the lifecycle, and not only developers.

Topic: Visual Studio Team System
Speaker: Peter McMahon
Venue: CS Holdings, Westville (map here)
Hope to see many of you guys there!!! Please RSVP to this thread so we can get an idea of how many people to expect.
An interesting forecast into the future of media can be seen here.
After watching it I realised that we're already sitting with a version of “EPIC”. We call it the internet, and it's pretty difficult to filter useful info from useless trivia at the moment. What do you think EPIC is? Is it just the consolidation of the internet's information being entrusted to one company? Is it possible? Is this good or bad???
Microsoft recently released a new version of ActiveSync.
My blog might barely be alive, but I'm kicking in addition to being very alive! I have been ultra-busy, however. Over the last few weeks I have often had something really usefull to blog down, but time somehow always escapes me.... I will blog as much as possible (just like the good old days) again, soon!
I spent New Years with my parents. Yes, it was a quiet one, but I really enjoyed just spending time with them again. No exhilirating holidays undertaken, actually one was cancelled, but revenge will soon be sweet.
HAPPY (belated) NEW YEAR TO ALL READERS, SADeveloper members, and anyone else who might read this!!!!!!
