Is it possible to test a nuclear weapon without producing radioactive fallout?
In what may prove to be the first nuclear explosion since 1998, North Korea claims it has conducted an underground test of a nuclear weapon. The official press release states, "there was no...radioactive emission in the course of the nuclear test." How likely is that? No radioactive emission my ***!!!

  • TELKOM SA (HELLKOM SA) plus Mbeki and co!!

President Thabo Mbeki labeled the rates charge on fixed lines telephony in South Africa as “unacceptable” in his State of the Nation address in February.

Referring to the deregulation process, he said: “Bold steps have been taken further to liberalise the telecommunications industry. We believe that the unacceptable situation in which some of our fixed line rates are ten times those of developed (OECD) countries will soon become a thing of the past,” said the president.

Regarding the formation and setting up of a second national operator (SNO), Mbeki said: “We also hope that the delays in setting up the second national operator, arising from legal processes which are beyond government's control, will be resolved in due course, and as soon as possible.”

When was that said? 11 February 2005.

What has happened thus far? Nothing.

It's been 128 days since the promise was made......................................????

This found on http://www.hellkom.co.za/  Go here to add your support!

I had to add this as well, could not resist! Just to highlight how we are ripped off in South Africa for our broadband connections!!!

UK Online offers 512k broadband for £9.99

UK Online has upped the ante in the broadband price war by introducing a 512Kbps service costing less than a tenner. The ISP's new service costs £9.99, which includes a free modem, plus a £25 connection fee. It has no monthly download limit.

UK Online has also slashed the cost of its 8Mbps broadband service by £10 to £29.99 with a £50 connection fee and its 2Mbps service is down from £29.99 a month to £19.99 with a £25 set-up fee. The new prices will be extended to its existing customers.

  • Spyware Floods In Through BitTorrent

    By Ryan Naraine

Anti-spyware advocates cry foul as the popular peer-to-peer protocol becomes the latest mechanism for the stealthy distribution of adware/spyware bundles.

BitTorrent, the beloved file-sharing client and protocol that provides a way around bandwidth bottlenecks, has become the newest distribution vehicle for adware/spyware bundles.

Public peer-to-peer networks have always been associated with adware program distributions, but BitTorrent, the program created by Bram Cohen to offer a new approach to sharing digital files, has managed to avoid the stigma.

Not any more, anti-spyware advocates warn.

According to Chris Boyd, a renowned security researcher who runs the VitalSecurity.org nonprofit resource center, the warm and fuzzy world of BitTorrent has been invaded by a massive software distribution campaign linked to New York-based adware purveyor Direct Revenue LLC.

"This is the marketing campaign to end all marketing campaigns," said Boyd, the Microsoft Security MVP (most valuable professional) known throughout the security industry by the "Paperghost" moniker.

  • MS Patch Train Drops Off 'Critical' IE Fix

MS Patch Train Drops Off 'Critical' IE Fix

    By Ryan Naraine

Microsoft on Tuesday released 10 advisories to cover a slew of security flaws in a range of products, including a "critical" cumulative update for the Internet Explorer browser.

Three of the 10 bulletins are rated "critical," the company's highest severity rating.

The IE fix, covered in MS MS05-025, corrects a remote code-execution vulnerability that exists due to the way the browser handles PNG (Portable Network Graphics) files.

According to Stephen Toulouse, program manager in the Microsoft Security Response Center, the flaw could allow an attacker to seize complete control of an affected machine remotely by luring a surfer into visiting a malicious Web site.

This is not the first time that Microsoft has squashed a PNG processing bug in its software. Earlier this year, a critical bulletin was released to correct a similar vulnerability in the Windows Media Player and MSN Messenger products.

The latest IE update also fixes a data leakage that occurs in the way IE handles certain requests to display XML content. "An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a malicious Web page that could potentially lead to information disclosure if a user visited a malicious Web site or viewed a malicious e-mail message," Microsoft said.

  • Firefox Vulnerable To 7-Year-Old Bug

    Firefox Vulnerable To 7-Year-Old Bug

    Courtesy of TechWeb News

Mozilla's current browsers, including the popular stand-alone Firefox, are susceptible, again, to a seven-year-old vulnerability that could let attackers spoof Web sites, a security company said Monday.

According to Danish security firm Secunia, Mozilla 1.7.x and Firefox 1.x are vulnerable to a frame injection flaw that first surfaced in 1998. Hackers could exploit the bug to insert their own content into the view of a legitimate site, to, for instance, pose as the log-in frame, then collect usernames and passwords to online bank accounts.

"The flaw means that if you are viewing a trusted site in one window (PayPal or your bank) and open a site belonging to a spoofer in another window, the spoofer can insert code in the window showing the trusted site," wrote a moderator on Mozilla's online forum Monday.

Secunia rated the bug as "moderately critical," and posted an example exploit so users could test their browser for the flaw. The same vulnerability was spotted in Firefox, as well as virtually every other browser in use, almost a year ago, and fixed in a pre-release version of Firefox and in Mozilla 1.7. The new vulnerability is a slight variation of that fixed flaw.

"To protect yourself, close all other windows/tabs before accessing a site where you routinely put in a secure password (your bank or PayPal account), or your bank or credit card details (e.g. Amazon), or other sensitive data," recommended Mozilla's online moderator.

Thought I would post this for the folk who are interested!
