Euro Trip
by
hannes
I watched EuroTrip this weekend and it was the most entertaining movie I have seen for quite some time. The story is really thin but the comedy and soundtrack makes up for it. So if you want two hours of entertainment requiring no brain activity get yourself this movie. Note to myself : Must try to visit Europe this year. Maybe the last change before the kids come. Good advise
by
hannes
One of the perks (curses) working for a large multi national company is all the free (mandatory) training. My last training session was part of our Management Development Programme . During this particular session two things that was said really hit home. Do not depended on your company to manage your career, y ou are in charged of your own career destiny. Secondly, you need to develop special skills that would want companies to hire you. To be average does not cut it. Invest in yourself to raise...

by
hannes
My earliest memory of Cape Town , growing up in the Eastern Cape, was watching the TV news showing it raining in Cape Town. It seemed that every time they showed Cape Town it was raining. Well I have been living in Cape Town now for the past seven years and to be honest I have not seen much of those seven rainy day in rows. But today it's raining in Cape Town and when it's raining in Cape Town every thing feels all right. Lets hope for another few rainy days in Cape Town soon. Share this post: email...

Which Version
by
hannes
I want to show you an easy but very effective way to keep track of assemblies. With multi version assemblies floating around it can become quite difficulty keep track of which assembly contains what code. A very simple way is by adding an attributed that does not come as a default in your Assembly file. (The AssemblyFileVersion is not to be confused with the AssemblyVersion attribute.) If you want compatibility, don't change the AssemblyVersion. Use the AssemblyFileVersion to track your builds and...

Airbus A380
by
hannes
If you want to go bigger and better Europe seems to be the place to be right now. Airbus just introduced their new A380 which when operational be the largest commercial airplane with a maximum take off weigh of 580 000 kg. The previous record was held of course by the Boeing 747 which entered service on the 1 January 1970. (34 years and still going strong!) What will make the A380 unique is that it will be a full double decker. Virgin airlines already hinted that they will use the extra space not...

Me = Solution Provider
by

To add to this I want to share one of my views on solutions development. We as IT people all to often want to solve business problem with IT solutions only. Well that is what they pay...

Butterfly effect
by
hannes
Ever wished that you can go back in time to change the past or wondered what would have been if you have made a different decision . Life is all about the decisions me make and it is also about living with the after effects of our decisions . Last year I saw a movie called The Butterfly Effect, which strikingly illustrated to me the causes-and-effect of the decisions we make. Go watch the movie, it’s worth it. A young man struggling with the psychological effects of sublimated childhood memories...
