Two Things Wrong with Traditional Business Systems Development by hannes

Not so long ago I came across a book called The Principals of the Business Rule Approach (ISDN 0-201-78893-40-201-78893-4) written by Ronald Gross . This is a must read for everyone serious about Business Analysis and Process Design. Here is a short extract from the book. Yes, There Is a Better Way! Is your company as successful as it would like to be in developing business systems? Probably not. Have you identified the reasons? Here are the two most common factors we see and what you can do about...

How to State and not to State by hannes

Keeping state with ASP is surely one of my biggest headache's when I need to tackle the odd and more complex web page that comes across my path. They have given use a Session and ViewState but that does not always solve my problems ( what can say, I like encapsulation ). Well off I went, thinking { incoming brainwave } what if I can use shared class variables for my state problem, surely that will keep the state. After a little prototype l can say that on the positive side it does keep the state...

The Overberg by hannes

On Saturday (11/5/2005) Cape Town's rainy weather for the past couple of days took a pause and it was a glorious sunny day in mid winter. Me and wife decided that this was a great opportunity to take a long drive in the country. We left early heading out on the N2 towards Somerset West. Our first stop was at Paul Cluver wine estate just past Grabouw where I bought two bottles of there finest red blend and a bottle of Chenin Blanc. Next we turned off the N2 heading towards Villiersdorp. The scenery...

The Bear and the Dragon by hannes

After a couple of months of putting all my time into studying I decided it's time to spend time on one of my favourite pastimes, reading. I'm a big fan of political / military science fiction so the decision was easy. Last night I bought myself the latest Tom Clancy's book, The Bear and the Dragon. There are not many Tom Clancy books that I have not read and I enjoyed all of them, so this will definitely go down well. How Object-Oriented Programming Started by hannes

by Ole-Johan Dahl and Kristen Nygaard, Dept. of Informatics, University of Oslo SIMULA I (1962-65) and Simula 67 (1967) are the two first object-oriented languages. Simula 67 introduced most of the key concepts of object-oriented programming: both objects and classes, subclasses (usually referred to as inheritance) and virtual procedures, combined with safe referencing and mechanisms for bringing into a program collections of program structures described under a common class heading (prefixed blocks...

Almost Time for VS2005 by hannes

This weekend I'm installing VS2005 Beta 2 on my home machine. Although I received it two weeks ago I deliberately decided not to install it yet because I needed some serious study time which would not have happened with a new Visual Studio on my PC. DevDays really waked my appetite, the time is near, may the force be with me. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

User satisfaction testing - Example by hannes

A while back I posted in my blog about User satisfaction testing . We as software developers tend to measure our product success by only measuring it against the functional requirements set and not taking in acount how the user feels about it at the end. Well here is a great example of what a User satisfaction test should look like. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!
