Idiots by hannes

I‘m becoming sick and tired of politicians playing the racist card every time they find themselves painted in a corner. We don’t need idiots like this in government. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

Crime again, the same story, just a little closer at home. by hannes

On Friday one of my wife colleagues was robbed with a gun put in her mouth. This did not happen in Hillbrow but at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town. She was followed from the bank where she withdraw cash. The robbers must have followed her from inside the bank because they knew exactly where she kept the envelope with the money in her purse. Although she was unable to identify them individually she recognized them as Nigerians. Why do we allow Nigerians in our country? I can understand the Somalians...

Kobus, irony and Lions by hannes

On Friday last week we got a puppy, a 2 month old border collie. My wife called him Kobus, don’t ask my why. Well Kobus kept us busy most of the weekend, not that he’s naughty but because he’s a puppy. Don’t you think it’s ironic that our health minister seems to be very ill from symptoms that remind you of a virus infection that she and her government deny are a problem? Wonder if she is going to take her own advice and try and treat it with traditional medicine, not that we’ll ever know the real...

Building walls by hannes

Well it seems that Trevor has done again a good job of the 2007/2008 budget . With surplus funds and good planning he was able to give most what they wanted. But every day we hear of poor service delivery in government. It’s obviously one thing to get money but another to spend it wisely. Someone jokingly remarked that if we could swop the personal between the departments of the finance and security (Police) we would not have any crime and any taxes. In Europe some lucky guy or girl won a record...

Changes and a lack of it. by hannes

For the past couple of days the weather in Cape Town reminded me more of winter than summer. February is supposed to be our warmest months but outside its raining cats and dogs. Last week was presidents Thabo Mbeki’s state of nation speech with the opening of parliament. We all hoped that he would address the crime problem directly but like any good politician he talked a lot but said little to make us hopeful that government is going to do anything about it. I read in the paper that AHI says that...

Eskom logic by hannes

1. The government (National Energy Regulator NERSA) is going to penalize Eskom for the electricity problems. 2. The government owns Eskom and is indirectly responsible for the problem because they did not spend anything on the power supply infrastructure for the last couple of years. 3. Eskom will most likely going to get the money now from price increases. 4. The consumers are going to be the ones paying more for less. 5. So how can it be that the government is making money from the there own bugger...

Super 14, governing a fool's paradise and Steve our man. by hannes

The past weekend marked the start of the 2007 Super 14 rugby series. Unfortunately the two teams I support in the series played against each other, the Western Cape Stormers and the Free State Cheetahs . Well the Cheetahs showed why they where crowed the best South African team for the past two years. They beat the Stormers convincingly 27 – 9, scoring tree tries. The Stormers is a team with lots of star players but for some reason for the last couple of years they were unable to play together a...

Standing together by hannes

According to an article the newspaper, Die Burger , the SAIRR (South African Institute for Race Relationships) are keeping an eye on the song De La Ray. The reason is that it sets an example of the search for a leader and identity among young Afrikaners. So what? I ask myself. It all right for ANC and PAC youth to sing songs about killing the Boers but nothing gets ever said or done about it. So why is it a problem that the Afrikaner is searching for leadership, are some one afraid what might happen...

De La Rey by hannes

On a mountain in the night I lie in the dark and wait In the mud and the blood As cold rain clings to my pack And my house and my farm were burnt to the ground so they could capture our land But the flame and the fire that once burned now burn profundly within my heart. De La Rey, De La Rey come lead the Boer De La Rey, De La Rey General, General united with you we shall rise or we fall. General De La Rey. Against the soldiers that laugh A handful of us against an army of them With the cliffs of...

Crime on my doorstep by hannes

In a resent interview South African president, Thabo Mbeki said that he does not think crime is such a big problem in South Africa. Well I can understand why he thinks that, if I have a small army of body guards surrounding me everywhere I go I would also think crime does not exist. I considered myself a lucky South African, living in Cape Town, statically the murder capital of South Africa I’ve been little affected by crime so far. The only notice I take of crime is what I see on TV. and read in...

Freedom Park's Wall of Names by hannes

I don’t like to talk politics’, especially not in public but these comments by this ass-hole really made me very upset. Young men from my generation took part and died in a war they did not asked to be part of. Who gives this idiot the right to say they did not suffer for their country? South African soldiers who died in the bush war in Namibia and Angola will not be honoured in the Freedom Park's Wall of Names. Responding to an article in the Sunday Times, Serote said the Cubans...

Who is sitting on my chair? by hannes

Today I became another crime victim. When I walked into my office this morning someone has stolen my chair! Can you believe it? This, inside the head office of one of South Africa’s top financial companies where I am supposedly surrounded by highly paid co-professionals. Just shows you the moral of the new and ‘improved’ South Africa. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

Double Standards by hannes

This morning I heard on the radio (RSG) that the Eastern Cape minister for local government is in hot water for not taking over the responsibilities of a local council where a total broke down in service delivery occurred. The ministers responds was that taking action will set a president because there are many other councils in the same situation. Interestingly the Western Cape government controlled by the ANC took action a while back against the DA lead Cape Town city council. The irony is that...

Economy 101 by hannes

Over the past couple of months the South African economy are really in overdrive, or should I rather say we are spending like hell. My theory for this is really very simple. Due to our rather high property values fewer people are able to effort there own housing, this is especially true in lower income and first time buyers markets. So the alternative is to go and rent which is currently a very affordable option. This leave people with extra money in there pockets which are spend on luxuries instead...
