When I've got a moment I'm hoping to put a follow up article, detailing our experiences more fully. In short though, using LINQ To SQL was a _great_ choice for us. It works very, has very little maintenance, and saved a huge amount of dev time. Keep an eye on my LINQ post category though to pick up some of the odd tips and tricks we learned.

We are in a similar situation to make the choice for the Data Access approach and considering Link to Sql and Enterprise Library. You must have real time experience with Linq to SQL now as you started the project long ago. I just want to make sure your opinion on Linq to SQL did not change! If you were to make the decision today for your project will you choose Link to Sql?

Please advice

This is definitely possible. You would basically be invoking the System.IO classes directly and saving the output to a filestream.

In terms of OnChanging(Changed) vs OnValidate, they likewise have different goals. However, it is also possible that properties may be set in another way (for instance via reflection or serialization), or you may want per-property vs one large onsave, so I would recommend having both approaches available, possibly even both implemented

Why have both still, unless I missed something. And if you implemented OnChanging, which would be my preferred choice, wouldn't OnValidate then be redundant and just extra overhead?

I can also see when implementing OnValidate only would be a logical choice as the validation logic could utilise more fields and order of setting the properties would be irrelevant.

By diabling the TMM task and then trying to connect to another monitor you could run into issue with the display results. TMM is the service that controls plug and play, so logically if you shut this off it can not properly detect or control other monitors. Some this prevented toggling between displays from working properly. If you do not travel or connect to other displays then by all means turn off TMM, but realize that it is not a fix but a band-aid.

I like the LISN one also because it includes .Net. but i guess that's implied by using LINQ, WCF and Silverlight.

Another question: is your LWS app on Linux or on Windows? I'm not sure how cross platform WCF is. SQL obviously isn't, but there could be LINQ to MySQL, so the L stays, and Silverlight becomes Moonlight. LWM?
