Tech Ed 2005

This year I am fortunate enough again to be sponsered by Microsoft to attend TechEd. I will be leaving tomorrow and I am looking so forward to it.

This year it is my aim to learn more about Avalon, Indigo and also to support my fellow buddies on their chalk and talk sessions. I hear Armand and Ernst are going to pick our brains with LinQ. This is a subject that will blow anyones brain.

Other speakers to support are Ahmed, Julie and Kate.

Can't wait to start packing my bags.

Register and unregister components with context menus

The stardard method to register and unregister ActiveX component is running the REGSVR32 utility, which forces you to bring up the Start|Run dialog and manually type the command line. A much better approach is to have the Register and Unregister commands right in the context menu that appears when you right-click a DLL, EXE, or OCX file in the Explorer window.

To create these menu commands read the full article on DevX.

Windows in your pocket

Does this sound like a noble idea or what? The idea is to create a backup device if your system has crashed.

All it takes is a minor error in the Windows Registry or a virus infection, and your operating system can become unbootable. But with a properly configured USB flash drive on hand, you'll always have a compatible replacement no further away than your pocket or keychain. In addition, the flash drive can also provide a secure browser and virus scanner, and lets you take your favorite DVD burning and Office software with you wherever you may go. All that's needed is a bootable USB Flash drive with at least 256 MB of storage capacity and a Windows Setup CD. Using the program Bart PE Builder (Freeware), you can install Windows XP on the flash drive, along with other software as needed (and as available space permits).

Read the full article of Tom's Hardware Page for creation instructions.

Griefers AKA Internet Bullies

I just thought you get real bullies in real life on school playgrounds. Seems to me that parents needs to take even more precaution on this.

Known as griefers, snerts, cheese players, twinks, or just plain cyberbullies, chances are that a kid near you has been bothered by one of these ne'er-do-wells at least once while playing online multiplayer video games such as Halo 2, EverQuest, The Sims Online, SOCOM, and Star Wars Galaxies. Griefers are the Internet equivalent of playground bullies, who find fun in embarrassing and pushing around others.

Look at this site for more guidelines for children.
