Senior SQL Developer I SQL DBA I Major database environment
An international gold mining company (Johannesburg) is looking for a Senior SQL Developer/DBA. THIS IS A VERY SENIOR ROLE IN A MULTIPLE DATABASE ENVIRONMENT
This is an opportunity to be part of an International Mining company (major stakeholders in SA and abroad), listed on the JSE and London Stock exchanges, with a huge IT component, comprising of various divisions (Communications; Document Management; Operations; Software Development etc). This senior role requires:
- 7+ year of MS SQL Server, 3+ years of ASP.NET development, and 1-2+ years managing/leading related projects is required.
- Experience managing SQL Server databases applications is required.
- Candidates must have the experience in both normalized and de-normalized data environments from a wide variety of data sources.
- Experience with Data Warehousing for use in SQL Server 2005 Project Development as well as DTS packages in SQL Server 2000 is required.
- Experience with the development and support of web enabled database applications using ASP.NET and IIS 6.0; experience with collecting requirements from business users and transforming them into data models and logical and physical designs with the use of database design tools.
- Experience in managing small to medium IT projects is necessary.
- Candidates must have solid analytical and problem solving skills. Experience with Windows Server 2003 from a DBA, Developer, Application and IIS support perspective including performance monitoring, is required.

The role entails:
- Design, develop and support multiple SQL Server databases and web based applications.
- Hands-on development and support using SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio (Reporting Services), Visual Studio 2005 and ASP.NET Framework 2.0 or higher.
- This person will develop physical and logical designs in response to dynamic business needs; and interact with business users to collect requirements, present technical solutions, and follow the organization's SDLC, manage the installation, upgrade, and support of SQL Server 2005 databases.
- This person will lead the design, implementation, documentation and maintenance of development, test and production databases; develop databases to support web and client-server based applications.
- This person will develop and deliver client focused business intelligence solutions. This person will also be required to provide advice to the solutions architect and CTO in the development of the strategy and execution plans for our client's BI and reporting platform.
- Participate in identification, project planning, analysis, design, development and implementation of projects; and provide daily direction and guidance on the development, maintenance, and support standards of the database administration team.
- This person will participate in performance tuning and optimization: Regularly evaluate and monitor databases and stored procedures to identify and resolve performance issues.
- This person will install upgrade and patches to existing databases and assist with Backup and Recovery plans; assist other Technology Resource teams with creation and maintenance of a secure database environment; and identify improvement opportunities to management and the team.
About the company: The mine has a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and a secondary listing on the JSE Securities Exchange. The South African leg of the company is currently involved in prospecting an area South of the Johannesburg Central Business District. The Company will be using proven modern mass mining techniques, such as underground processing, which will reduce operating costs and minimizing the environmental impact of any new workings, while enabling the rehabilitation of man old workings.
