Bluejacking

Published Thursday, June 17, 2004 2:06 PM
No, that isn't actually as rude as it sounds...well actually i suppose it is, but not for the reasons you are thinking of. Get your mind out of the gutter!

"Bluejacking" is the phrase that has been coined to describe the new cellphone viruses that are starting to emerge. Yup. Cellphone viruses. Those mystical beasts that we have all heard about in those terrified spam emails from our aunties but never actually arrived - although we always new it was inevitable that they would.

Since "patching" a vulnerability in a cellphone is infinitely more difficult that running a patch from your AV vendor, this could be fun. For the first time since getting my samsung e700, i am happy that it doesn't have bluetooth! :-P

[Update: Mobitopia takes a more cynical view on the Cabir virus]

Yes, apparently you even need to go through a couple of message boxes in order for the thing to install on your phone, so it doesn't really even count as a virus in the true sense of the word.

Nothing to worry about. Yet.
