Eric Gunnerson - C# vs C++

Thursday, January 27, 2005 11:43 AM

Eric discusses the differences here .

Taken from where it comes you obviously shouldn't expect a balanced discussion of the topic, but I happen to agree with what he says and I don't think he is to biased in favour of C#.

[UPDATE: Further comment and discussion from Mr Gunnerson here]

Language Oriented Programming.

Wednesday, January 26, 2005 9:56 AM

When Sergey Dmitriev (the CEO of JetBrains - the company that developed ReSharper and IntelliJ) writes an article on the possible future direction of software engineering, you know it is going to be interesting stuff. When Fran Bouma calls it "the most insightful article I've read in the last couple of months", you know you should definitely give it a look.

I have got deep into the article twice before deciding i need to recap and start again, but the penny is teetering on the edge of my cranium and I get the sense that with the third attempt it is going to drop into a whole new world of programming possibilities.

Read further comment from Frans and get the link to the article here.

The Message of the Tablet Medium

Friday, January 21, 2005 4:22 PM

"So to me, when I think of the Tablet PC, I think of this product that provides me with everything that the laptop does (in convertible mode) and has an entirely new category of possible software that is unrealized. As an end-user, I can understand why that’s frustrating, but as a developer, it’s what I live for. "

Larry O'Brien hits the nail on the head with this post and addresses what developers need to concentrate on in order for the Tablet PC to fully realise its potential. If you own a tablet or ever intend developing/catering for Tablet PC functionality, this is a Must Read.

How to add search functionality to your dotnet.org.za blog

Friday, January 21, 2005 9:56 AM

Go to the admin section of your blog and paste the following code into the Static News/Announcments section...

<h3>Search</h3>
<input class="BlogSearch" type="text" name="searchBox" id="blogSearchText" value="" onkeypress="return blogSearch(event, this);">
<input type="button" value="Search" onclick="return blogSearch2('blogSearchText');" class="BlogSearchButton">
<script type="text/javascript">

function blogSearch(event, oInput) {
 var keyCode = (event) ? event.keyCode : keyStroke.which;
 if (keyCode == 13) {
    top.location = 'http://www.google.co.za/search?q=' + escape(oInput.value) + '+inurl%3Akevint+site%3Adotnet.org.za';
    return false;
 } return true;
}

function blogSearch2(oInputId) {
 var oInput = document.getElementById(oInputId);
 top.location = 'http://www.google.co.za/search?q=' + escape(oInput.value) + '+inurl%3Akevint+site%3Adotnet.org.za';
 return false;
}
</script>

<br>
<a href="http://www.google.com">
<IMG SRC="http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_25wht.gif" border="0" ALT="Powered by Google">
</a>

Just replace kevint with your own blog name...

[Tips hat to David Cumps]

[UPDATE: Apparently using this functionality got some bloggers removed from the google index, so use with caution. Personally I don't blog so that google can index me, so i don't mind being the guinea pig - will comment again on this post if i see any issues]

[UPDATE 2: From what i can make out, putting in a google logo as i have done above should placate Google and stop them from messing with you.]
