Hello World - WinForms on Symbian Screenshots

Published Wednesday, June 28, 2006 2:30 PM

Armand blogged today about the buzz that has started flying around the net around what our Red Five Labs team are achieving with our implementation of the .NET Compact Framework on Symbian. I thought I would back that post up with a couple of screenshots of WinForms applications running live in the Symbian emulator. I was tempted to show the essential "Hello World" example but we are in a far more advanced stage than that and something more substantial is in order:

This first one shows WorldTime (a small in-house test application) running in the emulator:

This second screenshot shows the same app with the menu selected and shows the integration with the currently selected skin for the device (there is still some work to be done in this area):

This third screenshot is of a an open source .NET implementation of a VNC Viewer for a Compact Framework device (still a small issue with the menus here):

Finally, a screenshot of this same VNC application running in a SmartPhone emulator for comparison:

As you can see we are well on the way to our first public beta and the whole R5L team is really excited and motivated to get the bits out there for people to start playing with soon.

You can keep track of our progress via our CTO Mike Welham's blog here, Armand and others in the team including myself will be posting updates on our progress as well.

Hi Sven - you can get an S60 emulator and the rest of the symbian sdk from forum.nokia.com. We are not yet ready to release the first beta of our work but I will definitely post about it as soon as it is publicly available.
