Krugle

Monday, July 31, 2006 2:31 PM

The link I found this through [1] describes it as a 'Google for Source Codes' (sp), but when you digg a little deeper it is actually a lot more than that; it is a very poweful app.

I also think that a lot can be learned from their GUI implementation - very much an ide look and feel to it. I would love to see them implement a VS plugin using the same engine, it would be a very powerful addition to any programmer's toolbox (it already is as a web app).

Check it out: Krugle.com

Red Five Labs - Latest developments

Saturday, July 22, 2006 11:54 AM

As mentioned before, I work for a company called Red Five Labs, and we are implementing a .NET Compact Framework for Symbian OS. Since the news of our successes broke, the response from the developer community has been insane and the comments and feedback we have been receiving has made me prouder than ever of what our team is accomplishing. The last week has seen us making some big steps forward, and I will have some new screenshots to publish soon.

If you are interested in our progress, the R5L CTO (Mike Welham) has blogged about the latest plans in our path to getting the product out the front door.

Virtual Post-It #011 - The difference between font height and font size

Friday, July 21, 2006 12:55 PM

Font Size:  This is the baseline distance for which the font was designed. A font should normally be identified and selected by this size, because the intended baseline distance is much more relevant for practical layout work than the actual dimensions of certain characters.

Font Height:  This is the height in mm of letters such as k or H. Typically, the font height is around 72% of the font size, but this is of course at the discretion of the font designer.

VSTS Tip #001 - Grouping your WHERE clause

Tuesday, July 18, 2006 12:29 PM

I am hoping to add a few posts with tips and tricks on the things we are learning whilst using Microsoft's Team System. With our first beta just around the corner my blogging time is seriously limited but hopefully I will find gaps every now and again to add helpful things that might save you some time.

The first is how to group your WHERE clause when creating VTST Queries - it is simple and easy when you know how but if you don't then it is not immediately obvious.

All you need to do is select the rows that you would like to group (basically inserting logical brackets into the clause), right click in the selected aread and choose 'Group Clauses'.

Hope that helps - next I would like to blog about adding your own custom Work Items to Team System, and then how to customise the layout and workflow of that and existing Work Items (this is where I started to realise the true power of VSTS) so watch this space.
