Free MCP Exam

Thursday, November 30, 2006 12:19 PM

I have a voucher for one free Microsoft MCP exam*. It expires at the end of the year (2006). Unfortunately I am not going to be able to make use of it, but it would be sad to let it go to waste. If there are any readers of this blog who would be able to use it then drop me an email (kevint Angel gmail [.] com) and it is yours.

Conditions: You may not sell the voucher to someone else. You must know you can use it by the end of the year.

* 70-431 / 70-536 / 70-551 / 70-552 / 70-553 or 70-235

[Update: The voucher has been snapped up]

[OT] FYI: Skype Credit from South Africa

Tuesday, November 21, 2006 8:54 AM

A year or so ago I tried to buy some Skype credit with my Standard Bank credit card, but their system would not allow me to process the transaction. I know a few other people who had the same problem. Well I decided to give it a bash again this morning and this time the transaction went through, so they have obviously improved their backend somewhat – if you had the same problem you might want to try again as well.

Also, the Skype 3.0 BETA is out, you might want to check it out – completely stable on my machine and the Skypecasts are a fantastic new feature.

[Non-technical] BlogMailr, Motorbikes, Revver etc...

Thursday, November 09, 2006 12:49 PM

The real reason for this post is to test the BlogMailr tool that is getting so much hype at the moment but just so that I don’t completely waste your time, here is a dodgy handycam video of a daredevil biker in a cage from the opening night of Tech-Ed 06 at Sun City!

Speaking of which, has anyone else tried Revver yet? I uploaded a few vids to test it and have made $32s so far – although they pay you out via PayPal and you can’t receive PayPal payments from South Africa, so not sure how I will get the cash…

Ok, I think that is enough topics in one post.

DevDiv* Hotfix Public Availability Pilot Program

Monday, November 06, 2006 2:18 PM

About damn time...

"The goal of this pilot is to provide you with direct access to the most requested hotfixes that are produced for our developer tools. A hotfix is a single package that includes one or more files that is used to address a very specific customer problem with a product. You’ll find a description and download links below for the most frequently requested hotfixes for the Visual Studio 2005 suite of products."

Hopefully this gets rolled out soon to cover all hotfixes for all developer products...

[RedFiveLabs] Looking for a change?

Monday, November 06, 2006 11:35 AM

Here at Red Five we are starting our final push towards V1 and we are looking for some extra hands on deck to help us. If you are a self-motivated, enthusiastic developer/tester/student (in the Johannesburg, South Africa area (or willing to relocate)) who is looking for a change & a challenge then why not come around and take a look at what we are doing and see if you would be interested in joining the team?

There are a lot of benefits to working in a tech start-up - especially one with as much promise as Red Five Labs. I left the corporate enterprise for this place back in February and I don't think I would ever choose to go back! If you are keen then contact me via my blog or contact us directly and lets have a chat...

I have started an MSRS wiki here, please feel free to use it and to add any interesting and relevant information that you come across.

I am also happy to host any other tech-related wiki namespaces that people are interested in creating. If you would like one created for a topic that you are passionate about, please let me know.

[Dotnet.org.za] Embedded YouTube videos

Wednesday, November 01, 2006 10:32 AM

If you would like to embed YouTube videos in a blog post on dotnet.org.za, all you need to do is add a tag at the place in the post you would like to embed the video with the following format (leave out the + signs):

[+YouTube+:+videoID+]

When you publish the post the tag will automagically be replaced by the video with the videoID you specified. The id of the video can be grabbed from its URL, ie http://youtube.com/watch?v=NFlRkqv6upE has a videoID of NFlRkqv6upE.

See an example of the end result here.

[ This feature has been implemented locally by Armand using Scott Watermasysk's YouTube CSModule. Thanks guys!]
