  • Red Five Labs screening of ‘Pirates of Silicon Valley’

For people who will be in Johannesburg in June, this is the place to be on the 14th! Red Five Labs , the company I used to work for is having a Real Geek Evening® - i.e. not one of these Check-us-out-how-cool-are-we geek evenings that marketing-types seem to think are so in at the moment*. You can get all the details of the event here . The guys at Red Five are really at the top of their game when it comes to software developement, so I think it should be a good night out. If you have been thinking...
  • [RedFiveLabs] Looking for a change?

Here at Red Five we are starting our final push towards V1 and we are looking for some extra hands on deck to help us. If you are a self-motivated, enthusiastic developer/tester/student (in the Johannesburg, South Africa area (or willing to relocate)) who is looking for a change & a challenge then why not come around and take a look at what we are doing and see if you would be interested in joining the team? There are a lot of benefits to working in a tech start-up - especially one with as much...

  • [Red Five Labs] Simon

Well, aside from my several week break , things have been pretty busy at Red Five Labs. After several weeks of coding from a deck chair at home (less fun than it sounds, actually) I am now permanently back at work and things have returned to my own special version of 'normal'. Here at Red Five Labs we have rolled out our first and second iterations of private beta drops and although I am not involved directly in the customer interaction side of things, what I have heard of the feedback is very positive...
  • [Red Five Labs] Latest Screenshots & Info

As promised here is a new screenshot showing what some of the team have been busy with over the past while: These shots are of a simple C# application written in the Visual Studio 2005 IDE. It is exactly the same application running on the Smartphone emulator and then unchanged on the Symbian emulator. A couple of things I would like to draw your attention to… As you can see, although the binary code remains unchanged, when run on the Symbian emulator the application looks, feels and responds...
  • Red Five Labs - Latest developments

As mentioned before, I work for a company called Red Five Labs , and we are implementing a .NET Compact Framework for Symbian OS. Since the news of our successes broke, the response from the developer community has been insane and the comments and feedback we have been receiving has made me prouder than ever of what our team is accomplishing. The last week has seen us making some big steps forward, and I will have some new screenshots to publish soon. If you are interested in our progress, the R5L...

  • Hello World - WinForms on Symbian Screenshots

Armand blogged today about the buzz that has started flying around the net around what our Red Five Labs team are achieving with our implementation of the .NET Compact Framework on Symbian. I thought I would back that post up with a couple of screenshots of WinForms applications running live in the Symbian emulator. I was tempted to show the essential "Hello World" example but we are in a far more advanced stage than that and something more substantial is in order: This first one shows WorldTime...
