Upward and Onward!

I am so excited!  I’m about to journey onto a new plateau with a job offer from Barone, Budge & Dominick as software developer.

I’m moving into the corporate sector; with development teams, longer timescales and a definable methodology.  Quite different from the Rapid Application Development I’ve been doing up until now.

And I just have to thank the community; because without its social networking I would never have met the people who gave me the opportunity for an interview.  This is not just because I’m a lead.

While I’m expecting to graft my ass off with the new job, learning how big projects work and exploring parts of the .NET framework I haven’t had the opportunity to work with yet; I want to make a promise that I never want to use “I’m too busy” as an excuse for dropping the ball with SA Developer.  I’ve made time up until now to run it, and I don’t see why I should stop now.

What is unfortunate though is that I’ll probably miss Steve Ballmer’s presentation since he’s here on my first day of work.  Unless my boss is uber benevolent; I can’t see myself gallivanting across the countryside just as I start.

This is one of those rare posts that are going on my Social Feed as well as the DotNet Main Feed.  It’s a personal life changing thing but I think other developers can gain hope and courage to put them selves out there and grow the opportunities that the community can provide.

Where did all this money come from?

Step aside Copperfield, Mugabe is the new magician in town; producing R780 million out of a country stricken with drought, poverty and fuel shortages.

Bob and his pals were in South Africa recently asking us to give him R1 billion (R1000 million) for supplies and meanwhile he can pay out over 3 of quarters that amount to the IMF, nearly half his debt!

Even earlier he was in China asking for money.

The remarkable thing is that the state owned television calls the move “a source of immense national pride” saying that Zimbabwe can solve its own problems.

I have to shake my head in sadness.  I want to feel sorry for the country and see South Africa play a part in its reformation; however true prosperity will only come from the Zimbabwean people themselves.  And with alien actions such as these, I think that change is a long way off.

On a last note; I think Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC will win out if they continue they’re peaceful politics.  Looking at Martin Luther King and Ghandi, the results of peaceful protest are inevitable although they take a little longer.  George W Bush’s violent approach to his problems has left 2 countries in turmoil and a HUGE bill (something like $5.6 billion a month).
