The Mailowl Scrolls is moving

The Mailowl Scrolls is leaving the nest and can in future be found flying around http://www.mailowl.co.za My blog’s presence and its maturity has grown exponentially with dotnet.org.za and I’m only moving because I need some space to upload the projects, demos, games and presentations I’ve been creating. I also want to expose my photo gallery some more and my own little space will allow me to experiment with some web dev. So it’s all good, and I hope to see you at my new site. Strongbad emails available for your iPod

Strongbad, with his trusty allegedly portable Lappy 486, from Homestarrunner is now available on your iPod Video! Head over to http://podstar.homestarrunner.com/ and download the more classic Strongbad Email episodes. I hope we get to see more episodes being released and this is a start of a trend for online cartoons. Next must come Happy Tree Friends and then Joe Cartoon . Get your comics on an RSS Feed

Do yourself a favour and lighten up your day by reading your favourite comics through your RSS Reader. Go to Tapestry Comics and get the links to official and unauthorized feeds (unauthorized meaning someone’s managing a feed where each post contains the image url to the official website) for a host of online comics like yester-year’s Peanuts to the illicitly funny Sexy Losers I can recommend: Alien loves Predator , Ctrl + Alt + Delete , Dilbet , Peanuts , Sexy Losers and Sinfest . Leave a comment...

Xbox 360 available on Take2

Head on over to Take2 and add the Xbox 360 Full System to your Wish List cause it’s being made available to South Africa for R4599 (at time of post). I’m definitely going to get myself one of these babies along with all the Media Centre goodness. If the Full System is a bit pricy for you there’s also the Standard Core Pack for R1000 cheaper (again, at time of post). But don’t forget you’re going to need games with your purchase, pointless having a console with nothing to play. I’d like to recommend...

Gmail Mobile now available

Again and again, Google just keeps getting better. This time it’s Gmail Mobile which works absolutely brilliantly on my i-mate JAM. To get to the mobile version of Gmail, use http://m.gmail.com Google already provides its search pages in mobile form if you need to look up something while away from your computer (I’ve already used it while trying to convince the barman what goes into a Flaming Lamborghini); and Gmail was the next much needed step. I wonder when we’ll see other great sites provide...

Slurge's Birthday

I completely forgot to mention Slurge ’s birthday party last Friday! Vagabonds might not know how to serve a Flaming Lamborghini but they score 10 points for getting someone drunk! On stage were: Scizzor Wrist, Nil by Mouth and Choking Hazard. None of the bands this time seemed to have websites this time *frown* but check out you can check out Scizzor Wrist at Roxy’s on the 16th November 2005. So until next! Google Print

Google Print has been launched and it’s pretty cool! I typed in Bildo as a search and got 5910 pages with the word. Some of the pages require that you sign-in with your Google Account but most seem to be freely viewable. Read more about that they're up to on IOL Anyways, happy hunting! Microsoft's Halo to be turned into a movie

Now I’ve seen the trailer for DOOM Movie starring The Rock, but have you seen the news that Peter Jackson is Executive Producing Halo! I don’t think the concept of basing a movie on a game is exactly new, but focusing on First Person Shooters, especially a game with a minimalist storyline like Doom must be a challenge; although they’re going to score 10/10 for action and explosions. Personally, I’d like them to make a movie on the adventures Roger Wilco from Sierra’s...

Upward and Onward!

I am so excited! I’m about to journey onto a new plateau with a job offer from Barone, Budge & Dominick as software developer. I’m moving into the corporate sector; with development teams, longer timescales and a definable methodology. Quite different from the Rapid Application Development I’ve been doing up until now. And I just have to thank the community; because without its social networking I would never have met the people who gave me the opportunity for an interview....

Steve Ballmer is coming to South Africa

OH YOUR GOD! Steve Ballmer is coming to South Africa on the 3 rd October 2005! Apparently he’s in Johannesburg attending the MVP Summit, but they’ve squeezed an hour out of him to give us a presentation! Places are limited so make sure you book a seat . Now that I’ve told you, you’re all asking (along with the other developers in my office and my manager) “So who’s Steve Ballmer?” Let me just scrub myself from the shame of having to explain and then I’ll...

Microsoft Developer Road Trip CD

After following a link provided by the newly blog-enabled Karen Young , I downloaded and listened to the UK Microsoft Developer Road Trip CD . While the session was well presented and the talks were fast, topically and kept you listening; the content was only valuable if you’ve never heard of Visual Studios 2005 or even the .NET framework for that matter. For example they talk about the ability to build dynamic web pages as supposed to static HTML sites and propose this as a new feature of...

My favourite internet cartoon

Do yourself a favour and check out Strong Bad Emails over at Homestarrunner.com (or is it .egg or even .muffin). These short Flash movies are hilarious to watch, and are updated about every 2 weeks. Make sure you watch the backlog as there’s an overall story following Stong Bad’s upgrade to a 486 laptop. The reason I’m posting this is because I just watched Experimental Film and I just had to share the irony of what the creator does. Another very good Flash limited series to watch...

Role-playing podcast

I found another podcaster, RPGMP3.com which does reviews on roleplaying games. To quote from their site: “This site is dedicated to bringing a unique(ish) experience to roleplayers, gamers and web surfers everywhere. A combination of gaming and sound! The Audio Reviews let you listen to roleplaying games unscripted.” Currently I’m listening to them playing the World’s Largest Dungeon which is brilliant. I miss the old Dungeon & Dragons role-playing nights and I would start...

Jamming with my i-Mate

I got my i-mate JAM yesterday and I’m as happy as if The Salami from Killarney got high quality pictures of Elisha Cuthbert naked. This comes after I was due a new phone from MTN at the beginning of April and then told I have to wait until the end of August for a new phone. I’d like to think that its MTN’s good service that got me the phone (the JAM only being available from June 1 st ) rather than me having to throw my toys out the pram a couple of times. However I think it was...

Microsoft TV Campaign

Microsoft has TV campaign called Stationery is Bad which is promoting Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 and it’s hilarious. Check out the short movies on their website. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!
