Microsoft to sponsor Toyota Formula 1? by matt

"A brief article in British newspaper The Daily Telegraph suggests that Toyota could be on the verge of landing a ground-breaking sponsorship deal with software giant Microsoft, one of the world's most successful companies. At a time when Formula One is searching for a replacement for tobacco, the involvement of a company such as Microsoft would be seen as a positive move, indeed during the days of the internet boom, many predicted that the industry was well placed to take over from tobacco. Then...

Bloglines question by matt

I've just checked out Bloglines and Iam considering registering; however because of the extensive amount of blogs I read I would like to upload my OPML export from Sharpreader. Does anyone reading this use Bloglines and know if one can do this? It doesn't mention it on on their overview page. Dual PCI-E Graphics System by matt

Alienware (the PC's of geeks wet dreams) unveiled the ALX Video Merger Hub which allows you to connect two PCI-Express video cards in "parallel" giving you a calimed 40% increase in performance! For more info on how this works; check out PC Perspective . Although this system is quite awesome; I can imagine it will be horribly expensive. Just think two top-end GPU's plus the ALX card in a PCI-Express system... ouch! Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it...

Patching by matt

Patching is pretty much a way of life these days (no matter which OS you use). Microsoft is working hard to make this process easier; more accessible and more reliable. WB Editor by matt

I've been checking out WB Editor that I mentioned in my feedback on this post. My feelings are mixed: First and foremost it fixes my problem with our proxy authentication as I can now post through it. Formatting and inserting images is a doddle. (of course!) The UI needs a bit of work. It's not as intuitive as it could be. (no smart-tags on button hover!?) There's no spell checker!!! There's no quick category selection, instead there's a category Wizard. (Way to complex) At least it's made my life...

Microsoft cans Palladium by matt

Oh boy this is great news! The Next Generation Secure Computing Base (NGSCB) was supposed to prevent any 'unauthorised' code from running on a NGSCB PC at hardware level. It seems as if they have been listening to developers who are not willing to rewrite all of their code to be Palladium compatible; and to the public who have serious issues with r elinquishing their privacy to Microsoft. This does not mean the end of secure computing however. No Execute (NX) support is coming with future AMD and...

Formatting posts by matt

As you might have noticed I'm having trouble formatting my posts with images correctly. This is because I cannot get W.Bloggar or Blogjet to work through our corporate proxy (ISA Server 2000) which requires authentication. (Not to mention my complete lack of HTML skills... ) This is a desperate cry for help from anyone who knows of a tool I can use to make posting images to .Text through an ISA firewall a pleasure. Anyone?? Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it...

Thunderbird by matt

I've been using Mozilla's Thunderbird mail client for quite a while now for all my dotnet.org.za and private mail; and it's really great. As with all Mozilla apps, I find it takes a bit of tweaking and customizing to get it suited perfectly to your habits/preferences. I've been looking for a way to minimize it to the tasktray (ala Outlook). Thundertray does just this. I just changed my shortcut to point to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thundertray.exe" and then it always runs in the tasktray...
