Windows Vista Beta 1: A Reminder
by
matt
I've just installed Windows Vista Beta 1 on my IBM Thinkpad R40 (Centrino 1.4Ghz; 1GB RAM). (I can't get “Aero Glass” to work, BTW - even with TweakVista ) I'm not going to regurgitate all the other reviews ; but I will add this: Please remember this is still definitely a beta OS. It unpolished; clunky and you tend to do a lot of waiting. Believe Microsoft when they say that this is a preview for developers and IT professionals... it's just that, a preview. You cannot dump XP and load...

July 27 is Longhorn Beta 1 Day!
by
matt
Beta 1 will be made available to testers on the 27th July 2005. MSDN subscribers can expect it soon too! This means I better start backing up my notebook and mentally preparing myself to run a BETA OS for about a year until Windows Vista RTM's. (I wonder what compatibility will be like?!) Linux on the desktop
by
matt
Asa Dotzler of Mozilla/Firefox fame has just blogged about why Linux is not ready for the “Regular Users“ desktop. He breaks it down into four categories: migration, stability, simplicity, and comfort. Reading the article was like thinking out loud for me. It really hit the spot with comments like: When Regular People fire up the Linux desktop for the first time, the browser, office suite, email client, IM client, file manager, etc, each need to carry over as much as possible of the Windows...

First Munich; now Vienna

... have chosen Debian as their cities official desktop OS. This could affect up to 18 000 desktops; however “ It is up to the individual workers to choose if they prefer a KDE Desktop or a Microsoft based system”. It's apparently a custom Debian distro with the KDE desktop dubbed “Wienux”. It will be interesting to see if they report what the “individual workers” decide on! Edit: LOL, Google's translate says it best: “ Who wants, SOURCE way can decide for...

Linux feeds
by
matt
My OPML is littered with Microsoft related feeds and I'm dying to get some really interesting Linux related feeds into my Linux category. Things like WindowsSecurity.com ; The Office Weblog ; Bink.nu and You had me at EHLO are all great reads. Do any of you out there know of any or subscribe to any Linux feeds?
