Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition by matt

I've just installed and played with Windows Server x64 Edition with SP1 on the previously mentioned server. Needless to say it is blazingly fast ; more so than an identical server running a clean install of the 32 bit version and 4GB (physical) RAM. The future is looking bright!!! 64-bit Computing by matt

Now that I've bought my new AMD64 system, I'm very keen to try the BETA Windows x64 versions. While doing a bit of reading up around the subject I noticed, to my surprise, that the Intel PIV Prescott and Xeon's support the x64 extenstions too! I have just finished burning the build 1247 of Windows Server 2003 for x64 to CD and am installing on a nice new Dell 2850 with 2X3.4GHz Xeons. It should be interesting to see how it compares. I'm gonna pop in 8GB of RAM just to see if it really does support...

Microsoft cans Palladium by matt

Oh boy this is great news! The Next Generation Secure Computing Base (NGSCB) was supposed to prevent any 'unauthorised' code from running on a NGSCB PC at hardware level. It seems as if they have been listening to developers who are not willing to rewrite all of their code to be Palladium compatible; and to the public who have serious issues with r elinquishing their privacy to Microsoft.
