DirectX 9 SDK - October update - Managed DirectX Tutorials update

I have tested my tutorials with the latest SDK release (DirectX 9 SDK - October Update). They are working fine.

The latest SDK is available from here.

Happy DirectX'ing I am off to get some studying done.

I've retrofitted your MDX Quake III map loader into my engine, there were some issues, mostly related to the construction of IndexBuffer and VerticesBuffer being different. Also, VertexBuffer.SetData and IndexBuffer.SetData is now gone. This was alleviated using the new generic generic GraphicsBuffer class.

Pieter, just as an FYI, your tutorials compile fine as long as the previous Managed DirectX dlls are installed. If one uninstalls existing Managed DirectX assemblies, then goes to compile one of your tutorials, the compile wall fail. This is due largely because the various dlls have been merged into the single Microsoft.DirectX.dll, and also due to several API changes.

Not sure if you're aware of this or not.

lol, I really need to proofread my posts before posting. I meant to say, if one uninstalls all existing managed DX assemblies, then installs the October SDK, your tutorials won't compile.

I spent several hours converting my own engine (derived largely from Xilath! :-)) to the latest SDK last night; Microsoft has really churned quite a bit with this release. One thing I'm still trying to figure out is what the heck they did to the light types -- apparently there's not way to specify a light's type (directional, point, spot, etc.)

Oh well. Back to coding. :-)
Talk to you later Pieter.

# re: DirectX 9 SDK - October update - Managed DirectX Tutorials update

Last post, I promise. :-)

I just realized that the October SDK includes 2 sets of DX assemblies: one is the regular .NET 1.1 assemblies, another is the .NET 2.0 beta assemblies. I was playing with the 2.0 beta, not realizing the existing ones will still work fine. So, I now suspect you knew exactly what you were talking about when you said your tutorials compile fine, they will compile fine under the CLR 1.1 assemblies, not under the 2.0 beta assemblies.

Heh, I was refering to the .NET1.1 references rather than the new .NET2.0's, they seem to be broken very badly in this release of the SDK.
