PongoNoid 3D - Nearing completion

I have had some beta testers test the game for bugs and it's almost done. I will post some screenshots and a write up about the game later this evening or tomorrow morning. The game is basically a 3d version of the Arkanoid craze that rocked the world. Arkanoid is a cool game that resembles Pong. You basically have a paddle and you need to keep the ball from dropping (basically going out of bounds behind you). Your goal is to hit the blocks/bricks infront of you and destroy all of them for a score and progress to the next level. Added to this simple game is a few twists such as bonusses that may appear in some bricks such as a multiball bonus which gives you more balls and also grow! which increases the size of your paddle.

So let me get back to work and finish this game.

Project Firefly Entry - 3D PongoNoid

I really don't want to paste screenshots now but I am working on my project firefly entry right now and it's looking good so far. Think breakout/arkanoid + 3d. It's basically what it is with some added nit bits such as normal mapping and particles etc.. if I can get everything done in time that is.

I release the source and paste some screenshots as soon as I am done with the project. Right now I have some basic collision detection running and controls will be next. After that it's all fun and games such as incorporating highscores and bonusses...

Anyways.. back to work for me.
Cheers.

Tutorial 1 updated

I kinda rewrote the first tutorial to include the new render loop. It's a tutorial that I very quickly put together and I hope that it doesn't have too many errors. The source code is complete and hopefully gives a better overview of the tutorial itself. I should really take sometime and really rewrite most of these tutorials.

Send me your comments to pieter at pieterg dot com.
Thank you for your support. It's much appreciated.

Managed DirectX Samples completed (Normal Mapping + Blurring)

These projects were initiated so that the community can find some place to start from scratch. Although I have written a tutorial on normal mapping, I thought that these samples should provide other people with a project to tweak and play with.

MDX Info opens to the public

It's open MDX Info opened this morning at 00:00 and hopefully would be a great way to unite the Managed DirectX tutorials on the net. Currently myself and Rim are looking at getting some more tutorials online and if you have a article or tutorial that you feel will fit right in, please don't hesitate to send it to us.

Send us your feedback, it will be greatly appreciated.

Normal Map Sample

Due to the amount of detail you can have on low-poly models with normal mapping, I decided to create a sample showing the normal mapping technique. The sample gives you some basic controls such as rotating the camera and pausing/resuming the spinning light.

The source and binary can be downloaded as a package.
