How can students make a developers life easier? 3RD Year Projects at Technikon

Every year at the Durban Institute of Technology there are a number of students looking for projects to practise their development skills on.

What is this project?

The project is a final evaluation that takes place in the 3rd year of studying. The project is a custom software solution that has to be developed for a company. The software product will undergo each phase of the traditional SDLC. Basically putting to practise what the students have learnt in the past 2 years.

Why am I blogging about this?
I am in the same dilema. I really want to do an interesting project. I currently only have 1 proposal and I don't think it's enough. I want something interesting so that I won't loose too much interest and really keep my team motivated.

If you or your company has a project that needs attention or want to automate some part of your system that will make your life as a developer or make your company more productive. Please contact me at "pieter at pieterg dot com".

What is required is a small 1 - 2 page proposal document outlining the overview/requirements of the project that needs to be done. This will be forwarded to our department to make a decision on which project the team will be working on.

Have a fantastic day people.

The mission continues...

As the new year has finally settled in... I can continue to work on some exciting technology. This is my last year being a full time student and I want to put as much effort as I can into getting the most out of it. With that said, I am going all out to learn many new things. DirectX and ASP.NET and many other things such as XNA is also on top of my list.

What awaits me is what i'm really excited about. I don't know where I am going to apply for a job yet but hopefully I can get straight back to studying towards higher qualifications as I work.

Well back to some DirectX stuff....
I have started looking at some other engines as to base a new "sample framework" type setup and then documenting the whole process. I have said that I will do a project like this in the past but I keep getting sidetracked as us programmers often get. I will do my best between studying, and working on my final year project to do this for the community.

Have fun...

PongoNoid 3D - Download

I have uploaded the game to my site. You can download it here. You need the latest DirectX Runtimes, this will include the Managed DirectX Runtimes and you also need the .NET2.0 framework installed. I hope you all enjoy this game. I need to mention that the game still needs alot of work.

Have fun

PongoNoid at FireFly

It was a great event and all I can say that is that I am finished. I was so tired when I got home yesterday that I slept from 2pm right until 9pm. It was definitely a great opportunity to see the talent here in South Africa. Alot of interesting projects and people. I managed to slip in my game and won the Visual Gaming section of Project Firefly. This was really very cool and the prizes were awesome.

Thanks goes to Microsoft for really making the gala dinner a cool event.
