TechEd Africa 2007 - Meeting and Spending some time in the community lounge

I just have to start off by saying, what an awesome crowd. I have the pleasure of meeting Willie (SADeveloper.NET Lead - Durban) and Craig (SADeveloper.NET Lead - Gauteng). What an awesome bunch of people. I decided to spend my time at TechEd in the community lounge and interacting with the people. It was great to see the enthusiasm around the communities and how well the lounge was used. Great job guys! For all of those who came to my What is XNA - GSE session, thank you very much. You were a great...

Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF (Codename : Avalon) and Direct3D

It's been awhile since I last blogged, Here I am again, back and ready to jump into action. This is the start of a new chapter and some more research into WPF and Direct3D(My most loved part about the DirectX APIs). Windows Presentation Foundation is an API that allows the users thereof to create vector based applications. The underlying rendering engine is Direct3D. The nice thing and a very good benefit of using WPF for your future GUI's is the fact that it uses Direct3D as it's rendering...

More tutorials on the way

I have been so busy in the last couple of days with studies and answering posts etc.. that I have neglected my site. I have more tutorials planned and I am thinking of combining them in a .pdf for download so that you guys/gals could just grab a zip/rar and read it offline. I also have a series of tutorials planned on real life game development but I really need to structure this correctly. I want some comments/advice from you, terrain rendering... etc.. and more shader tutorials. What's really needed...

Conceptual Visual Fixed function pipeline

I have created this simple yet easy to follow conceptual fixed function pipeline image. It shows in a very visual way how each stage of the pipeline affects a primitive. I hope to enhance and add more detail to the pipeline but I thought it might be a good idea to get something up on my site as I haven't updated in a couple of days. if you have any comments or questions please do not hesitate to ask me. Pipeline - The Research

Myself and some friends have discussed really understanding and learning how to core proper direct3d apps and we have come to some conclusion. It's a great benefit to understanding the inner workings of the hardware pipeline... So I was thinking of posting my research articles here aswell on AGP and maybe in the future PCI-X. Just giving a slight overview of AGP and how the pipeline works. If you haven't come across it yet. Rich has posted his pipeline image. It's really awesome and covers the complete...

Stencil Buffers - Reflection tutorial

I have added a tutorial on stencil buffers with emphasis on masking. This is a technique used to mask out the rest of the scene while only objects will be reflected in the mirror. Stencil buffers are great for this since it's easy and simple to use when you want to achieve this effect. If you have any comments, I would love to hear from you and what you think I could add to my site to improve your learning and/or experience. So much to do, so little time.

I am currently writing tests and the end of the month I am going to TechEd, so as a filler I will do my best to get some studying done and write about it... maybe looking at some render states and textures and lighting in the programmable pipeline. So bare with me as I have alot of work to get through this month. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

Tutorials Updated (August SDK tested and new framework)

I have updated the tutorials code with my latest framework that includes some structure and a first person flying camera. This might help some of you to see how structure is formed from the basics upwards. Furthermore I have tested all the tutorials with the August SDK update and they work perfectly. This is just basically a general maintenance on the tutorials. Please send me your comments, I greatly appreciate any comments/suggestions. Progression - Game/Graphics development (Training the brain)

An essential part of any kind of career is the part of progression. I am a firm believer in setting goals for yourself. They must be reasonable though and through that the sky is really the limit. I suggest that anyone in the field of game/graphics programming look at games that you play and try and figure out what effects you like and try an implement them. These are excellent exercises for training your brain to look and duplicate/recreate/improve effects that you have seen. Also.. a very important...
