  • SA MVP's in the snow in Prague

Ok so when Ernst said he was gonna show me the Durbs surf style, I did not expect this:

  • So long and thanks for the fish

Ye it kinda feels like that, thanks Cape Town for 4 amazing years, but I'm heading North again back to Gangsters Paradise.
Last night at the sadeveloper meeting CT, the leads and community sprung a surprise on me.
Wow thanks people, that was really a surprise, and with my Lemming logo too.
I will wear it with pride, thanks for such a great time; I hope JHB can keep up.

    Check it out!!!

  • An Eight-Instruction Turing-Complete Programming Language

They call it Brainfuck, I kid you not, only I was not about to put that in the title.
A fellow developer sent me the link to this, well, brainfuck language, I just had to post about it.

  • When Technology catches you with your pants down.

And no, this time it has nothing to do with video camera's and showers, but a close second.
Who remembers back at school when it's speech time and you draw that topic from a hat, praying “please don let it be - my most embarrassing moment” and that's what you get.
Ye I'm sure we have all lived that one.
Didn't think I could beat that until today, try not picturing it.
The bladder is calling so you slip into the gents (lady’s if you the fairer sex) to relieve the pressure.
Yip you guessed it right at point of no return, the phone rings.... (Admit it we all have an inner fear that happens!!).
No sweat, ignore it, I'll return the call when all is done, only your super duper uber high tech blue tooth headset has other plans and decides to answer the call on your behalf.  :-s.
Now that would be ok if the person on the other side was a buddy (of same gender), you could laugh it off. But if it was a work associate of the opposite gender. I wont say more...  :-s
Think I'll just go home, especially considering that just after that the vending machine developed a brain of it's own and reeked havoc by only taking only half the amount required to get anything, and then refusing to return coins it had taken. Considering that machine is where everyone walks past, and you get that “We know look”…..
Guess I am now known around here. Like everything else, I’m sure I’ll laugh about it …. One day….
Warning. It could happen to you.

  • sadeveloper's new leads in fine form.

Today before we attempted to play the 'ILAN', I had a meeting with all the sadeveloper leads in CT. Today’s session was to pass over all sadeveloper info, files, bit's and bobs. Thanks guys and girl, your passion for sadeveloper is warming, and after the few hours of intense discussion that we shared I have no doubt things will go well. It's important for a team to bond together, to share idea's thoughts, problems. (meet often)
Even with the short notice you were all there, and although it was only scheduled for an hour you stayed on discussing and questioning. This shows commitment.
Leads are champions, and champions put their passion first, and I can see you have a deep passion for this great community (remember it's like a family, will have it's up's and downs, squabbles and laughter).

If I had to give you one more thought, remember a lead is a channel for passion, if you serve the members, if you channel their energy and passion, if you synergize with each other, you will jointly achieve great things. Do this to improve others, think community gain at all times.

Trust me I will keep in touch, you all work well as a team, but please bear one thing in mind, you now belong to the community, and  not the other way round, one day you might be sitting down just like I am, passing on the responsibility of thousands onto new passionate people. Seek them out, give them the glory and let them shine. I pray that when you find yourself in this position you two sit down with a lump in your throat, you know the kind, tear in one eye, heart thumping in the chest. Some sadness, plenty joy, and a sense of pride for what has been achieved.

As I face new challenges, as I swim through the many small and large ponds of South Afrcia, facing dangers, sharing thrills, avoiding pitfalls of my new exciting career, I will always have the comfort of knowing I am a part of a great community, a community that is in good hands, and a community I can be proud of.

Thanks to you all for all you have taught me...

  • Microsoft. Ready or not, here I come!!!

Or is it the other way round?
As I eluded to when I was melting (last post) I have some announcements to post somewhere.

It's true, as of March 2005 I will be leaving the wild world on contracting and joining the masses of PF's (permanent force).

I have been promised that this new world (Microsoft) I enter will be more exciting then anything I have experienced before, well what with the crazy stunts I've gotten up to in the past few years, I can only hold my breath. It's gonna take some beating, however I get the feeling that if ever there was an organisation up to the task, Microsoft is it.

So watch out for me, I intend making a lot of noise in my new position, and don't for a second  think that I have left the community life behind me, in fact I will be playing a much larger role in communities in SA.
Oh my position? you want to know what it is, “Academic Developer Specialist“  ;-)

The other spot of news is that this post is going to take me up to JHB, so it’s relocating we go, wish me luck.

  • Melting....

Hell, go away, I've not been that bad, house temperature = 33 deg C, outside = 39 something. All I can say is thank goodness for the pool. A nice 26 Deg C.

Ok so why have I been so quite of late, lot's to tell, only now I'm trying not to melt onto the keyboard. So I think I will go back to the pool. 20H10 and the house has settled to a moderate 30 deg C, pool still 26, much better, cheers I'm outta here before my mind melts.
