I was reading through Channel 9 this morning and came across a question about when (or if) the service pack for Visual Studio 2003 would be released. There was one of the comments that made me start thinking just how bad things have become with Microsoft (and even in general) release dates. To quote from this guy's response: " Can't say I'm surprised. There are two things Microsoft does more nowadays than anything else: 1) Miss release dates and 2) Lie about future release dates. What a winning combination...
This is really interesting. I guy pulled some stats from his site to see what search engines big company employees use the most. Not surprisingly Google came on top but shockingly for Microsoft MSN search is not their top choice... http://andrewhitchcock.org/companystats/ Steve Balmer must be thinking of flying chairs again.... Yet another 'version' of SQL server that could be useful as an application embedded database engine. It may now be time to finally dump that Jet engine (the database one) for desktop application use. The benefits include things like using a db engine that is more scalable, robust, better, stronger, faster...I think we can rebuild it..uhm sorry I think I'm on a six million dollar roll there , re-using sql skills, ease of sharing the data (eventually) with a full SQL server and so on. Another nice...

Just when you think you just might get slightly up to date with technology they come with anouncements like this: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060606/sftu068.html?.v=51 Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

First comment I have on this is: THIS SUCKS! Why can't we not have Halo 2 on WinXP? Yes, I know it should use DX10. This is just a Microsoft marketing scheme to get people to splash out and buy Vista! The biggest problem is hardware. In order to play/use Vista properly you will need an up to date machine which probably mean a 50GHz processor machine with 2 TB memory! Ok, that was just a joke but you get the message. I've been waiting to play this game for a long time and now it's even going to be...
A few days ago I blogged about the updated SQL books online (December 2005). Unfortunately I discovered it completely breaks your 'Managment Studio Express CPT' and the only way to fix it is by renaming/deleting a registry key. Really stupid if you ask me! To get 'Managment Studio Express' working again you have to delete or rename the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell]. This effectively break SQL books online for SQL Server Express again. To...

I hope they(MS) don't mind but I'm so excited about the launch (finally) of VS 2005 that I'll post the dates here on my blog. Are you ready..... Microsoft is launching SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 . SQL Server and Visual Studio: Great Separately. Even Better Together. From Microsoft .NET Framework support to tight integration with Visual Studio, new features in SQL Server 2005 provide developers with the ability to more easily create secure, robust database applications at a lower cost...
My manager at work sent me the following link on how Jim Allchin managed to turn around the development culture inside Microsoft. Its something developers and architects must read to understand that even the world's biggest software company can 'learn' from its own mistakes. Microsoft Changes How It Builds Software In the beginning mr Gates and CEO Balmer were against it but they gradually learned that this is the way to go. Now we can look forward to a 'better' and 'meaner' next version of Windows...
So many things happened at PDC that I only remember some of them thanks to some related stories I read. I followed a link from winderivers.com to http://www.internetnews.com/dev-news/article.php/3549406 where they write about the 'lighter' moments of the conference. Needless to say the people at the conference enjoyed it tremendiously when Bill was talking about how he always wants to compare the software industry's reliability to that what the power companies (should be). But after the power outs...

Attending PDC 05 was an experience. There was so much to learn and experience and I probably missed more than half of it - there being so much to see and so little time. The following is a summary of the things I thought was cool and exciting (this is by no way a complete list of everything that was available at the PDC) 1. Bill Gates keynote, he talked alot about the future and where Microsoft is going and that they are not blind to what 'others' are doing. I was just wondering why they keep on...
Some interesting reading I came across that might interest others: The .Net developer journal had an interview with Anders Hejlsberg in which he talks about C# and future developments. Its one of those articles where you can see a master is talking. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!
I have'nt notice any announcements or news about it and came across it by accident. It seems SQL 2000 SP4 has been released. The major focus of this update is around 64bit stuff.
