I am having a bit of a debate about what motivates people in the IT industry. I think we are a bit of a different breed, and all the research that you can find on the net is generally aimed at generic business set-ups. If you would be so kind please could you order these motivators in order of most motivating to least motivating from your perspective. If there is something that seriously motivates you that I have left out, please add it in.

I agree with Brian. The ability to create something from nothing. Someone gives you an idea and you can turn it into something that people can use. Nothing more satisfying than walking through a call centre with 100 operators and seeing them all using software (24 hours a day) and you had a hand in creating it
