No, not the city in Norway even though that is a beautiful place it's far too cold to get my tail feathers in a flutter .... I am talking about the "Oslo" initiative that Microsoft announced some time back. Since it was announced it has caused more hooha than anything else Microsoft has announced since possibly the introduction of Windows! So what is it?!?!? Darn fine question .... Up until not many have been able to give me a definitive answer and often the messages being received...
At last! The South African BizTalk community has an online home. Head on over to www.biztalkug.co.za where you will be able to find anything and everything related to BizTalk in South Africa. Go ahead, sign up ... you know you wanna! PS. a big big big thanks to all that helped to get this site up & running. Nabeel, big up to you man! Thanks! To Telligent for sponsoring us a license to Community Server, thanks very much! I am currently in Miami for the BizTalk VTS conference but as soon as I get...
So this week I am attending a deep dive course presented by John Callaway from Quicklearn . I must say the sesison is very informative and even though I have been using BizTalk for almost 8 years now I am still picking up lots of little pieces of fun things that I never knew about before. Little things that will make my life as a BizTalk developer much, much easier. This is the kind of content that us local BizTalk developers have been starved for; for such a long time. Thanks to Microsoft for bringing...
It's nearly that time again ... jeesh how time flies when you're having so much fun. The next instalment in the saga of the Johannesburg BizTalk User Group will be happening on the 7th of May at the Microsoft campus in Bryanston at 18:00. Topics planned for this session include; EAI Patterns and their application in a BizTalk environment with an introduction to the BizTalk pattern wizard by Jon Flanders; which can be found here . Business Rules Engine, best practices, tips and tricks from...
Well, it's done, it's happened and now it's time to look forward to the next one! Yup, the 2nd meeting of the newly formed BizTalk User Group was held this week, 5 March 2008, at Microsoft's offices in Bryanston. Thanks again to Frikkie for arranging the venue and organising the fantastic refreshments! What else do we need? Some BizTalk perhaps, well there was loads of that too... We started off the evening watching a video clip from on10.net about how Blue C Sushi are using the new...
The Jhb (hopefully one day this will read the "South African") BizTalk User Group has a home ... www.biztalkug.co.za Sorry about the horrible initial landing page, but this is the best we could come up with in the 10 seconds we had between running around like Manto who has lost her garlic and JZ who doesn't know where the LifeBuoy soap is! If you would like to be kept in the loop just hit the mailto: link and you will be added to a distribution list. This is only temporary until the...
In an earlier post (here) I discussed a truly bizarre error received when trying to compile an orchestration. Well at least on that occasion it gave me SOME information, it might've been cryptic but at least I has somewhere to start chasing the ghost ... Today I got what must rank as the most obscure and useless error message I have ever received during BizTalk development, or any development for that matter. Let me explain ... See if you can spot what caused the exception before getting to my...
The next meeting of the BizTalk user group will be happening on Wed 5 March @ 18:30. Yes it does seem an age away but I'm getting various people to work on some real content for this next meeting and that takes time. It should be some exciting and interesting stuff that we can all hopefully get our grubby paws dirty on. Promises to be fantastic! So don't miss out. Venue still to be confirmed, as soon as i have final confirmation I'll let everybody know. But for now book the time in your...
So last night, December 5 2007, saw the launch of the first ever user group for BizTalk in South Africa. As an integration architect and developer who makes heavy (almost exclusive) use of Microsoft technologies to deliver solutions in the EAI, B2B, SOA space this was an exciting event for me. There were 40 (approximately) attendees at the inaugural event, which I think is outstanding. This proves to me once again that BizTalk is enjoying a run of popularity at the moment and that more and more people...
Well it is little known to me anyway .... In fact I have been working with this designer in Visual Studio for the past 5 years and only discovered this feature by pure accident today. When working with complex orchestrations, and by complex I mean when you start to have more than a single receive and send shape, things on the designer can start to get messy when you have lines criss-crossing everywhere. Well, no more ... I noticed something today for the first time when looking at the Port Surface...
So I followed all the best practices for returning Fault messages from my Orchestration Request-Response port as found documented here ... I then published my orchestration as a WSE service. Then I built this funky little test driver console application that submits SoapEvenlopes to the service and ultimately to BizTalk ... all good until a fault is returned. All you get is "Server is unavailable, Please try again later". Great! No SoapException detail. No SoapFault. Nudda. So where did...
In the first post of this series (get it here if you haven't already) we started exploring what this product, that is often misunderstood, called BizTalk is all about, but before we dive to deeply into the product and start exploring all it's bits and pieces let's go right back to the beginning ... "Let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start ... " To really understand BizTalk as a newbie, and sometimes as a seasoned pro it helps to look at it...
So what is BizTalk? Depending on who you ask you can receive a myriad of different answers ... from "It's the greatest thing released by Microsoft since Windows itself" right down to "It's the biggest load of rubbish released by Microsoft since Windows 95". It's a product that has been around since 2000 odd and like many Microsoft products has come through a number of significant releases, improving in leaps and bounds each time; yet even now with it being on it's...
I am currently working on this really cool integration project where I'm automating a number of business processes using BizTalk orchestrations. The data comes in through a variety of sources and trading partners and ultimately gets pumped in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 using the adapter built by MS. One of the gotchas that I ran into was on create / update I was getting an error coming back from CRM saying the following: "Error Description: Input Xml is having some invalid attributes"...
This is the first post in potentially a larger series of posts featuring things I would like to see changed in the next release of BizTalk Server. This is probably more hopeful than anything else .... Somehow I am hoping desperately that somebody from the BizTalk product team stumble upon these requests and take note. What's the chances? The first one of the small annoyances I have with BizTalk server, which has been there forever and still exists, is actually not with the server product itself...
