So how many times have you done it? Come on admit it ... we've all done it at least once. Some of us just can't help ourselves ... it's an addiction. What am I talking about? Well picture this .... You go out for a drink or two, or three, or four (you know how it goes). At some point during the evening when you're barely able to construct a sentence consisting of little more than a few slurrs you feel this strange weight in your pocket. Why, it's your cellphone, here's a smashing...

Let me start out my saying that I simply love the writings of Joel Spolsky [ more about him ], CEO of FogCreek Software , and have been a follower of his well written and well thought out essays on software development and management on his Weblog "Joel on Software" ( http://www.joelonsoftware.com ). He has also published a number of great books on building good software and good software companies, many of which already have a home on my bookshelf. One of his earlier articles he posted...
I know this probably old news to most of you .... but I only found it today, courtesy of Armand 's post here , and think it rocks! quoted from Symbian Tools , the developers of this little gem.... "Guardian is the new anti-theft system for Symbian Series 60 devices. Every time you switch on your mobile telephone, Guardian proceeds with authentication of the inserted sim card; if authentication fails, Guardian sends a notification sms message to a previously set telephone number." So...
Jeesh, ok this is the only time you will probably hear me say this; but i so wish I was in London this weekend! Why on planet earth you ask ... well 2 good reasons 1) Tour de France starts there on tomorrow (7 July 2007)! Even with all the doping scandals in professional cycling lately it still remains the greatest race on earth. 2) Live Earth concert. Yes, yes I know we have our very own, but look at the lineup for the UK (I count at least 8 WORLD CLASS SUPER STARS) and we're stuck with Danny...
Ok, guys & girls ... answer me this please .... When considering a potentiol position at a company how do you go about deciding whether or not to take the plunge? Is the interview process generally only one-sided? i.e. They grill you like a chicken *** at Nando's, or do you do some grilling of your own? How important is "word-of-mouth" opinion of the company to you? Do you speak to people you know that have worked there before, that work there now? Do you consider the input of others...
there is said it and i've joined the trend to end it .... "I, as a human being, implore you to stop using Facebook. Delete your account. You’ll be surprised when no one even notices... You are hopelessly addicted and it will be the end of your natural life. I guarantee if you can make it 2 weeks without it, your life will become better in every way..." the above blurb was taken from; Facebook is the end of humanity This is a funny site; go check it out ... this guy has some issues me...

you know what has annoyed me beyond all belief in the recent months ... the desire and ability to go on strike over just about anything! previously striking was a good thing when you doing so against poor working conditions, abuse, opression etc. etc. now it seems you can go on strike for just about anything. just this week we've had THREE groups of people striking! SAA, municple workers, and PnP (a giant retailer in SA). the reason for the strike, well because people were not happy with the annual...
well yes i would know cause it has happened to me .... I realized when I crashed so badly that if I had slipped unconscious I would have been in serious trouble. I had a cell phone with me yes, but it got obliterated by the impact of a 5ton truck. I was riding with friends yes, but how many of us know each other's next of kin's contact details or what medical aid they're on? The first thing the paramedics asked was whether or not I was on medical aid; had I not been conscious to give them my details...

I am having a bit of a debate about what motivates people in the IT industry. I think we are a bit of a different breed, and all the research that you can find on the net is generally aimed at generic business set-ups. If you would be so kind please could you order these motivators in order of most motivating to least motivating from your perspective. If there is something that seriously motivates you that I have left out, please add it in. t raining socials salary increase employee of the year award...
