  • Dotnet.org.za Subversion Access

In the past the maintenance of this site has pretty much been a one man show with the sad effect that when I'm busy very little is done in terms of updates or additions to the site. As one example - it's a shame that months after the upgrade to Community Server 2007 the site is still running...

  • Homepage Cleanup

After having a look at the main page of the site and the relevant site overlays on Google Analytics I decided to make some changes to the home page tonight. I removed all the unnecessary links and irrelevant stats and instead just rendering a clean post list of the last 25 posts. (To remove the cached...

  • Site Down

Unfortunately for reasons still unknown the site stopped responding and no requests were processed. We suspect it's a silent protest against those "Retirement Ads" that Google Ads displays on the home page every now and then but we will be looking in to it in more detail to avoid a similar situation...

  • Performance Tuning

We've done some performance tuning to the dotnet.org.za database which hopefully improved the general site responsiveness noticably. The server is also getting another 1GB of RAM as a late X-Mas present which should improve things further.

If you're reading this blog through the web interface you would have noticed that there's been some changes to the site. As part of these changes I also took the opportunity to review some of the administrative processes like backups. Currently I'm backing up my blog together with some other data to...

  • del.icio.us - Automatic Blog Post

[ Update : I've updated this post with tag support here ] http://del.icio.us has a very useful feature, the daily blog posting, which creates a daily blog post with all the links you tagged during the previous 24 hours. So instead of trying to memorise links and then post when you get a chance, whenever...

  • SSL Certificate Updated

I've updated the SSL Certificate on dotnet.org.za to a proper web server certificate from Thawte to resolve the problems with Windows Cardspace based logins caused by the previous intermediate CA reliant Starfield certificate. (What a waste of money that was) If you've previously assigned an...

  • MetaWeblog API - newMediaObject

Just applied the official Community Server MetaWeblog API update to allow direct uploading of images and other files to my blog through the MetaWeblog service. If you see at the bottom of the post it's working. On the image: At the rate my Vista RTM download started over the weekend it might just...
