OK, so I've been struggling to get this thing to work... We need to get this functionality on our projects sites so I downloaded it from CodePlex and installed it (it is a .wsp file). But alas no matter what I do or where I look I can not seem to get the option to apply it within my site. I'm going to continue hunting for a solution and when I find one I'll be posting here... to celebrate

I wrote my MCTS: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Configuring today. Yesterday when I went to bed I was confident that I knew my stuff. Then this morning I looked at all my notes and stuff and realised I'd hit that dreaded psychological Blank That's when I started panicking, but what could I do?

So off I went. I was scared and shaking. All I could do was hope that I'd go so blank that I'd stop panicking

Well, those seconds at the end, waiting for the results to show felt like a lifetime and then.... Result: Pass (Passing score: 700 Your score: 929 )

Customer expectations

I know this will seem very obvious, but my experience has taught me that the "obvious" often gets forgotten int he excitement of a new project...

One of the most important things in getting user buy-in is to meet their expectations. The "nice to haves" can definitely add a lot of "wow" factor but no amount of wow will compensate for those basic requirements being unmet. Also, too much extra "wow" can often lead to confusion.

An important extension of this when dealing with Sharepoint is that when demo'ing to your customer always demo the different user groups - just telling them that different users will see different webparts / content / etc as required is not sufficient - you need to show them and the "sign on as different user" makes this quick, easy and painless so use it!

I joined Faritec as a SharePoint administrator in December 2007 having previously been employed at a large corporate in the financial services industry. Having done all the configuration and administration courses over the past 2 years and having worked with both WSS2 and MOSS 2007 for most of that time there is one thing that I've come to accept - there will always be another way to do anything you want to do with SharePoint. The trick comes in knowing where to look for information and what is the most appropriate solution in any given instance.

I will focus my efforts (but not restrict them) to finding the best sources for "how to" tutorials and useful tips as I am by no means the expert in this myself (yet ).
