So where have I been?
For the better part of the past 2 years I've mostly been involved in a custom dev solution for one of the major banks... I started out during the initial analysis phase as a dev on the project, then our Team Lead left and I had to fill that gap. The team changed quite a bit, and while we were busy on this project our team also grew to include a couple of SharePoint and BI people. (Working on other projects) More people, more work :) To tell you the truth it has been quite difficult trying to...

(Re) Installation stories
After delaying it for as long as I could, I've decided to reinstall my laptop, again. It all started when I began to notice that general slowness, firstly builds ran slower, VS got sluggish, and then it spread to the rest of the machine... all of that I could have dealt with for a while, but then the major crap started: First thing that went this time was my mouse, or basically the USB ports. Just informed me 'unrecognised USB device', and the only way to resolve it was to reboot. (Please note I...

Snow in Joburg!!!!
I just stood in SNOW for the first time in my life!!! In Woodmead, Joburg! Very very small flakes, but it was snow! Apparently the last time it snowed in Johannesburg was in 1981! I hope the snowflakes become bigger, then I am going home! Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!
Energy burned/day
Ever since I got my Polar watch I wanted to wear it for a whole day to see how much energy I use at work. Haha, didn't expect much as the only time I get up from my seat is for a smoke break. So today I finally got around to it. I started when I left home this morning (7h30) and stopped when I pulled my car into the garage this evening (18h20). And the stats.... *drumroll* Total Time: 10 hours 50 mins (longer than usual) Max [wikipedia:heart rate] : 119 bpm (unfortunately didn't notice what...

Life Update #1
Well, to be honest - at the moment I don't have a clue what is going on in the rest of the world, not even the blogging world. Big reason for that is my sister, Rita-Mari and my nephews that visited me for 2 weeks. The kids ran around from 6 o'clock in the morning till about 10 at night! I have never in my life been so tired. People keep on telling me that it is different with your own kids, but I think I will pass for now. Besides that it was wonderful seeing them again and we got to go to places...

I'm back :P
I have decided to break my blogging absence with a completely non-technical post. You should be glad that I didn’t try to post anything technical as it would have been about analysing and fixing old VB6 and ASP applications, or spending my weekend at IS rebuilding Windows 2000 Servers. Doing that 8 hours a day has completely demotivated me and I didn't even want to look at a pc after hours. I even thought about giving up programming and rather start with something new than wasting my time with this...

Jo'burg Radio Stations???
As most of you know by now, Armand and I moved to Jo'burg. Yes, at last we gave in and left our little boere town and came to the big city (no, that is not how I see it, but most Jo'burgers view ;-) ) I will miss Pretoria, but a change was definitely necessary - I lived in one place for way too long now. And off course there is the traffic issue... Armand is a loooong 3 km from his job and I am about 7 kms from mine - it is heaven. At last I can actually enjoy breakfast, read some mail and even go...

Drakensberge here we come!
We are almost on our way to the Drakensberg with some of our friends. They are there already, and as usual we are the ones that have work to finish, Armand is working his arse off to finish something :) But soon I'll be lying in the sun drinking some [insert any drink here] next to the pool!!! Hmm... Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

Warped Tour AND PDC???
Armand and I are planning to go to the Van's Warped Tour next year, and today I realized that the dates are very close to PDC !!! So hopefully if everything works out, next year this time we’ll be attending both... :D I’m already so excited; I just had to share it! At home :)
Yeah! The company I work at had a power failure so we were able to go home early!!! And I only got there at 9... The best is Armand works a block from me, so now both of us are sitting at home and I have time to blog a bit. Yesterday we found a bug in our system where when a user refreshes the page the modal window opens which has been used already, instead of only refreshing the page. I didn't really look at it further as I scheduled time to work on it today. So last night when I got home I went...

How easy it is to help :)
Today I read an article in The Star about poverty and blah de blah de blah - same story we've heard over and over again the last couple of weeks. I am tired of hearing the same story, partly because you don't have to bombard me with all those facts as I already know it is bad out there and really want to help. But I have always had an excuse to actually go out there and help: time, money, this, that... The difference about this article was that it showed me how easy and cheap it is to help, there...

Comrades - good luck Armand & Prieur
I just want to wish Armand and Prieur good luck with the Comrades that they are going to run for the first time on Thursday!!! I know it takes a lot of training and guts to do this - getting up early every morning (ok, almost every morning), going out in the cold, running 10-12 km... A couple of times they even skip going out on a Friday so they can go run a race Saturday morning!! (If you know Armand, you'd know that takes a lot of willpower ) Nope, it is not just anyone who has the determination...

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie
This is just so sad to hear. Apparently the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie is awful according to this reviewer . The book was awesome and I couldn't wait to see the movie which is due to be released in May. I really want to see how they portray the rather unlucky spermwhale and all the other crazy parts... But usually I don't give reviews too much thought and I will still go and see it. PS: And yes Kevin , that reminds me about your book - will return it to you tomorrow (ashamed smiley...

A guy, Alexis Lemaire (24) has just set up a new world record by finding the 13th root of the 200 digit number above. He was not allowed to write or type anything, the whole calculation needed to be done by mental calculation. It took him 513 seconds - just over...

Wonderful Tshwane
So now I live in Tshwane East. It sucks! It irritates the crap out of me. You know, if they can retain the name Pretoria for the city centre, why not for the whole Pretoria. I just can't understand the reasoning behind it... Are things like poverty and AIDS not more important? The costs are just going to be enormous.
