What is an Architect - Interactive Discussion Sessions

We are planning the archWorkshops as outlined on http://www.saarchitect.net/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=7860 to investigate and define the architecture roles and understand what makes architects “tick”. The monthly interactive, round-the-table, sessions are planned for August, September, October and November.

saArchitect Community Query: WCF V.1. - What is missing and what would you like to see in the next generation?

It would be great to get comments, ideas and suggesstions  from the saArchitect community as to what is missing in WCF v1 and what you believe that the technology team should be doing next.

Code Coverage and Profiling in Visual Studio Team System

We had a great WebCast session last night (SA time), covering VSTS code coverage and profiling. Thanks Jean-Pierre for an excellent demonstration.

Make sure you catch JP when he hosts another WebCast on August 4th, looking at VSTS Modelling.

Apologies for low profile and plans for August+

Firstly I wish to apologize to everyone for having such a low profile, however, production projects and the imminent release of our book “.NET Enterprise Solutions … Interoperability for the Connoisseur” is creating a rather hectic schedule for our team.

This post is intended to reassure that we are still around and to give you a summary of what is planned for August 2006 and beyond.

August 2006

www.drp.co.za … will soon get a facelift, whereby we are planning to deliver better developer readiness information on a more proactive basis to both the developer readiness community and the SA IT community.

August is the scheduled release date for our new book and so far it is all systems go.

WCF, BizTalk and VSTS technology sessions are scheduled for August and beyond, whereby we are planning a monthly community event. We will notify everyone as soon as we have finalized the schedule.

WebCasts are also on our menu, with a VSTS Profiling session this month, followed by VSTS Modelling and BizTalk/WCF sessions in August.

In August I also have the pleasure of visiting Microsoft Redmond with a WCF/WF agenda. I will schedule a community briefing session as soon as I am back and once I have clarity on what is sharable and what is NDA.

beyond August

Firstlly we have started on a book, tentatively titled “Software Engineers on their way to Pluto” which takes a critical, yet humourous, view at software development life cycles, methodologies and how we develop solutions. We are planning to post regular extracts to the community for comment.

See you soon. As soon as I return to SA I will resume my regular posts and saArchitect community sessions.

WinFX WebCasts

The .NET Framework groups are offering another series of Live Meeting presentations called “Live from Redmond”. These talks are given by product team members so it’s content directly from the program managers and developers on the team. The feedback from the first series that was done in partnership with INETA was overwhelmingly positive so Microsoft decided to offer another set of talks.

Remember back in the 80s when software was play ...

Thanks Charles for pointing out these links to the Microsoft Robotics Group. Microsoft have just released a technical preview of the Microsoft Robotics Studio (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=66d1363e-36a4-46be-ad36-01bcfbfb4969&displaylang=en). Looks like an interesting environment if you are involved in building robots, i.e. test BOTs.
