TFS Anomalies ... things that make me frown and Mumbles' forehead shine
TFS != VSS != SVN != VC
Team System is NOT a version control solution! Instead it is an integrated (NOT monolithic) Application Life-cycle Management (ALM) solution guiding solution team stakeholders and improving collaboration, communication, solution quality and decision making through visibility of activities and status.
If we look at the latest Team System diagram from Microsoft, we will notice that Version Control is one of the services delivered by Team System ... in other words one of the many, not the only service.
TFS != Microsoft
Team System is NOT a Microsoft-only solution!
Visual Studio Industry Partners offer a range of extensions and 3rd party tools that not only enhance Team System, but offer seamless integration into other non-Microsoft environment.
Teamprise is an excellent example ... get more information here or attend the next MVP Interoperability workshop and see integration and interoperability in action.
VSTS Users Group != Partner Competition
It seems that a VSTS Users Group is not feasible in our region as partners in our region (SA) are reluctant of partners to work with each other on these kind of initiatives?
What?
We are working closely with other partners, often competitors, to evangelise technology and the correct usage thereof, as well as sharing technology information and knowledge with the community and partners without any restrictions. When I am active at such an initiative I am not representing Microsoft or my company, but instead the communities such as SA Architect and MVPs. Am I living in a dream world or impossible illusion, or must some of our partners become more community aware and/or mature? Before I waste any time on a South-African Team System Users Group, I would like to get some feedback and some clarity...
