Team Foundation Server SP1 ... the journey begins
Firstly download the new installation guide here and take not of this warning:
Important Note:
In deployments where the application tier and a client tier component are installed on the same computer, you must install SP1 for Visual Studio 2008 before you install SP1 for Team Foundation Server. Otherwise, you will not be able to install SP1 for Team Foundation Server.
If not, you may find yourself a tad frustrated for a while ... although, colleagues have managed to install it the other way successfully. We tend to stick with the installation guide, to avoid debates when it is necessary to raise a support call and call in the cavalry.
We are in the process of testing the upgrade for TFS 2008 SP1 in a virtualised environment and at this stage have had no issues with the VSTS2008 or the TFS 2008 Service Pack 1 installation. Event logs are clean and the product is ... or at least appears to ... be fully operational. The duration of the installation was just under two hours for both the VSTS2008 and the TFS 2008 SP1 installation, using a virtual server with 2GB RAM, hosted on my Vista powered laptop. We will be performing tests and will update this blog if we pickup issues.
Some issues encountered in the field to date:
- 08/13/08 11:13:18 DDSet_Error: *** ERROR: Failed to call WMI on the RS server. The most likely cause is that the setup user does not have the required permissions: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
08/13/08 11:13:18 DDSet_Status: Process exited with exit code: 15 - VSTS Error - Not enough storage is available to complete this operation error when selecting check-out for edit.
- ... hopefully this list will not grow, but keep an eye on it anyhow.
Next blog will focus on the next nugget, "TreatTestFailureAsBuildFailure" property, and continue with the nugget series from http://dotnet.org.za/willy/archive/2008/08/15/vsts-tfs2008-service-pack-1-nugget-3-source-explorer-enhancements.aspx.
See you soon.
