Errata: .NET Enterprise Solutions … Interoperability for the Connoisseur

Our second book is finally available and shipping. Packed with a wealth of information covering interoperability it is also littered with TLAs. For those that hate TLAs (three lettered acronyms) as much as I do, we extend an apology for undocumented TLAs within the book. Here are two of the TLAs and their actual meaning: POX – P lain O ld X ml describing basic XML. Apologies for low profile and plans for August+

Firstly I wish to apologize to everyone for having such a low profile, however, production projects and the imminent release of our book “.NET Enterprise Solutions … Interoperability for the Connoisseur” is creating a rather hectic schedule for our team. This post is intended to reassure that we are still around and to give you a summary of what is planned for August 2006 and beyond. www.drp.co.za recovered and back alive!

We experienced immense problems over the past two days with our www.drp.co.za , whereby links were broken and therefore snippets and posters unavailable. We have recovered the site and at a first glance everything looks back to normal ... please report any problems to drpsupport@bbd.co.za or myself immediately. We have also noted that FireFox users are battling with the site and will address the issue at the next opportunity. The recommended browser for the site is IE5, 6 or 7. We appologise for...

A thought ... Only bad solutions require maintenance?!?

In the recent months, while running a developer readiness program for a very energetic team focused primarily on native C++ development and only just scratching the surface of .NET, I have often overheard conversations that maintenance teams are boring, maintenance teams are the end of the road and only bad solutions require maintenance. Absolute rubbish … “excuse the outburst”. While bad solutions are actually made obsolete or retired very quickly, solutions that are well designed, well developed...

COM+ Rules

After two years of intense focus on managed code, I had the pleasure of doing a time warp back to COM+/C++ as part of the interoperability sections I am creating for our new book and a production solution that is happily running on COM+. The joy and excitement exceeded the frustration of getting back into C++/ATL and I have realised that COM+, Component Services or Enterprise Services, or whatever name it is currently known as, is far to powerful to be forgotten when designing solutions of today...
