Have you also forgotten the SUBST command by any chance?

I have been busy debugging and implementing workarounds for a toothache I experienced with Visual Studio and had to create a few directories on the D drive ... which I do not have on my laptop. Being pragmatic, I attached my external drive and created the directories ... fortunately Philip Kelley dusted off a few of my spider webs by saying " It’s easier to use the subst command ". In case you have also forgotten this useful command, let me demonstrate its use: Assume you need a path...

Vista - Run As Other User

We are currently battling with our Vista based laptops, as our remote assistance and remote access has been disabled after the last batch of hot fixes, and literally grayed out ... we cannot enable. We are raising a support incident as we cannot find a resolution and as the issue is quite frustrating. We will report back on this gremlin. Another frustrating Vista issue is the lack of the "Run As Other User" feature. Once again SysInternals comes to the rescue with the ShellRunas utility...

Technology Readiness Session - A peek into one of our events

The following picture is a peek into one of our technology readiness (TR) sessions and associated interactive technology discussions, which is probably also one of the first sessions transmitted live via LiveMeeting. For those familiar with our developer readiness program, the TR's are a derivation from the information dump sessions, typically lasting 45-60min and presenting and/or discussing a technology topic. We are hoping to soon share all technology readiness sessions as LiveMeeting and...

I forgot how to do this trick and before I forget, here is a quick "tips and tricks" post that enables your command prompt as shown: To add the Command Prompt command to the shortcut menu: Create a file, i.e. Command.reg containing: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd] @="Command Prompt" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd\Command] @="cmd.exe /k cd %L" Double-click the .reg file to add the registry entries. ... and "Cowabunga"...

Book 2 goes public and book 3 gets a mention ...

Just spotted http://www.itweb.co.za/office/bbd/0610240808.htm which highlights the release of our second book "Interoperebility for the Connoisseur" and a mention of book 3. Geoff and I are having immense fun with book 3 and we believe that anyone with a slight interest in space and/or scifi will really enjoy the book "Software Engineers on their way to Pluto> Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

Errata: .NET Enterprise Solutions … Interoperability for the Connoisseur

Our second book is finally available and shipping. Packed with a wealth of information covering interoperability it is also littered with TLAs. For those that hate TLAs (three lettered acronyms) as much as I do, we extend an apology for undocumented TLAs within the book. Here are two of the TLAs and their actual meaning: POX – P lain O ld X ml describing basic XML. WXS - W 3C X ML S chema, used to express shared vocabularies, allowing machines to carry out rules defined by humanoids. Share...

Microsoft ... when will you give us one IDE?

I am not one for complaints, but the INTEGRATED development environment is very DISINTEGRATED at the moment. If you have the joy of being in the early technology adoption teams you will be forced to run your production environment and a number of separate CTP/BETA bits and pieces, forcing most of us to resort to separate machines or polluting our precious hard drive and memory space with Virtual instances of separate environments. CTP/BETA implies that one has a thick skin and an understanding that...

archWorkshop starting on September 7th, with focus on Enterprise Solutions Architect

We are hosting the kick-off archWorkshop meeting on September 7, 2006 at BB&D. We will be linking up with saArchitect Cape Town and snacks/drinks will be served. The intention is to listen to architects from the field, understand their role, their issues and what makes them tick. The result will be a whitepaper I am planning to publish at the end of the year for saArchitect. At this stage the agenda looks as follows: September Peter Scheffel to present his role as Enterprise Solutions Architect...

Apologies for low profile and plans for August+

Firstly I wish to apologize to everyone for having such a low profile, however, production projects and the imminent release of our book “.NET Enterprise Solutions … Interoperability for the Connoisseur” is creating a rather hectic schedule for our team. This post is intended to reassure that we are still around and to give you a summary of what is planned for August 2006 and beyond. August 2006 www.drp.co.za … will soon get a facelift, whereby we are planning to deliver better developer readiness...
