Technology Day 2008 Kuwait - We are back after a great event.

We are back home in South-Africa after attending the exciting Technology Day event in Kuwait. We will be publishing a more comprehensive report shortly, but in the interim you can find some photos at http://www.msexperts.net/ . In summary, the event was really exciting, exceptionally interactive, driven by a professional and really enthusiastic Sureen (lady standing next to me), and a bunch of really motivated and and knowledgeable MVPs. The region must be proud of the level of expertise and passion...

Technology Day (30th) - More pictures from technology day in Kuwait

A few more pictures from our journey, courtesy of "Mumbles" our Linux evangelist. Note that the country is hot, very hot and some of us are really battling ... Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

The ATC "Mossie" Trio arrives in Kuwait

The ATC Mossie trio, Henk, Zayd and Willy have arrived safe and sound in Kuwait for the Technology Day event tomorrow. We had a lot of delay and the feeling of "Midnight Express" when we ended up waiting for our visas at the airport at 3AM in the morning, only to realise that Zayd's suitcase had decided to stay in Johannesburg. Eventually we got a few hours sleep in the exceptional Le Meridien Tower hotel, enjoyed a stroll to the event, setup and configured out classroom for tomorrow...

Redmond Sabbatical - Day 7

The flags are still flying at half mast in the Redmond campus, showing that the senseless Virginia Tech massacre has left deep scars. Yesterday's shooting at NASA and the fatal F-18 Blue Angel crash this morning seems to indicate that this country has some more wounds to mend. What is truly amazing about this nation is how the people stand together in times of hardship, how the traditions have been maintained... even noticeable in the Baseball game ..., the respect for the constitution and the...

Redmond Sabbatical Day 4

It is raining in Seattle ... and I am having sleepless nights in Seattle as well. ( Jetlag + TooManyInterestingTechnologyBits ) = no-time-to-sleep :) Dear colleagues in South-Africa and especially Mike and Grant, take a close look at the download dialog screen dump on the left. It is neither 1.76B/Sec or 1.76K/Sec ... it is using the MB symbol ... a rare species back home. My exciting tour through reported TFS issues, problems and challenges continues, with the aim of extending the TFS Best Practice...

Redmond Sabbatical - Day 3

Day 3 ... oh yes, I failed to create an update for day 1 and 2. The reason for this omission is not my aging gray matter or lack of commitment, but rather lack of energy an d time. The flight from South-Africa to the US went well, with the plane onboard map showing us ahead of schedule by close to an hour half-way across the Atlantic ... but had we known about the major storms on the East coast we would have been prepared for the turbulence on approach ... "wings can literally bend a long way...

MVP Summit - T+1: Museum of flight ... WOW!

Apart from the buzz of the MVP passion and brainpower humming through the museum of flight ... the experience of visiting the was simply "awesome". I really, really wish I could have had my three sons with me this evening, because they would be on cloud nine for the rest of their lives. The blackbird ... my youngest son's favourite plane, the Phantom ... my oldest son's favourite plane, F14 Tomcat, Fiat, Sea Harrier, the infamous Starfighter and a gazillion other bits and pieces to be admired. I...

MVP Summit - T+1: The Summit is heating up, while the weather is cooling

The day started at 2C ... quite "coolish" for us South-Africans. Last night we enjoyed the regional dinner, which resulted in most of us getting captured on a sheet or paper VISUALISATION and receiving a tattoo IDENTIFICATION ... relax, it only lasts a day. Today was quite eventful, with Bill Gates delivering the Keynote and, both Chris Anderson and Don Box talking about modeling ... what energy, what passion ... WOW ! For those that believe that typed datasets are on their way out ... watch the...

MVP Summit - T-0: Registration

Day 1 is drawing to an end, after the completion of registration and the Expo, where I met some interesting people ... the most interesting obviously from the Team System Group, i.e. Etienne Tremblay from Canada ( http://geekswithblogs.net/etiennetremblay/archive/... ), Chris Menegay from the US, David Mckinstry from the US and Martin Woodward from the UK. View from the Washington State Convention & Trade Centre (Left) ... Etienne (Middle) ... "Mo" on top of the world (Right) Tonight is the regional...

MVP Summit - T-0.2: Mohammed our hero

The summit has not started, but my South-Africa time clock has thrown me out of bed at 3AM ... good time to quickly post two pictures, from last night's MVP dinner arranged by Mohammed Seedat (goold old "Mo") at the Coldwater Bar and Grill in the Westin Hotel, and then to do some work before bracing the rain, wind and 11 ° C temperature outside. Mo ... that's the guy on the left ... has been our lead in South-Africa and has done an immense job for the South-African MVP group and the community as...

MVP Summit - T-1: Arrival

After an elapsed time of 26 hours, flying time of ~22hours from Johannesburg, via Dakar, via New York and finally landing in an overcast and foggy Sea-Tac Airport, I am finally in Seattle. My bets are on that immigration back home will be far more efficient ... I nearly missed my connecting flight after spending 1.75 hours at immigration, connectign terminal re-checking and a brisk walk to terminal C this morning. As promised, I will post one or two photos every day from the MVP Summit. As it is...
